Ministerial Nurse Practitioner Scholarships 2018

Round Two: Opens 8 October and closes 4 November 2018

Each calendar year, the Northern Territory Minister of Health offers four Ministerial Nurse Practitioner Scholarships to increase the opportunity for nurses to advance their careers and provide even more services to Territorians.

The Ministerial Nurse Practitioner scholarships are available to Nurse Practitioner Candidates for tuition fees, travel and accommodation up to the annual value of $6,500 each.

Eligibility

• The Ministerial Nurse Practitioner Scholarships are restricted to Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Residents or New Zealand Citizens who are Special Category Visa (SCV) holders.

• Applicants must have been employed for more than one year in a NT health service (public, private and non-government originations) and be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

• Applicants must have written support from their employer to undertake their Nurse Practitioner studies in an approved Nurse Practitioner Candidate position.

• The Ministerial Nurse Practitioner Scholarship will normally only be awarded to candidates who are active employees of health services in the NT. Employees who are absent from duty on any form of leave without pay (including unpaid maternity or parental leave) may be eligible if they have had continuous service for a minimum of three years.

• Studies must be undertaken at Charles Darwin University (CDU), except in exceptional circumstances.

• Applicants must have completed at least two units of study in their Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) course.

What is funding granted for?

The Ministerial Nurse Practitioner Scholarship may assist (up to a maximum of $6,500) with:

• course fees

• travel and accommodation for compulsory residential course attendance/intensive practicum/clinical placement blocks

• travel and accommodation for attendance at conferences pertinent to Nurse Practitioner clinical skill acquisition and professional role development

• travel and accommodation for placements with interstate Nurse Practitioners for clinical skill acquisition and professional role development

• reference books and textbooks required for the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) program or to further develop scope of practice.

What items are excluded from funding?

Funding is not granted for:

• loss of income such as salary/wages

• computer hardware, software and internet access

• accommodation for family members

• NT Working with Children Card (Ochre Card) fees

• first aid courses

• child care or fuel while attending on-campus classes.

Priority applicants

Priority is given to applicants who have:

• successfully completed more than two of their course units in the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)

• provided a well-developed and thought-out study plan with expenditure mapped to clinical skills and role development.

Terms of payment

• The Ministerial Nurse Practitioner Scholarships run on a reimbursement scheme.

• Applications will only be considered complete if all required evidence and documentation is provided.

• Candidates who are receiving sponsorship from other sources may not be eligible for grants, or may be eligible for a part payment only.

• Funding for successful applicants will be approved in principle for the current semester expenditure. Proof of expenditure such as a fee assessment notice, receipts, tax invoices or

similar that verify enrolment and fee payment are required.

• Reimbursement of approved funding will be provided on submission evidence of successful completion of the units approved for funding. Proof of successfully completing units, for example an academic transcript is required.

• Funding may be provided for course fees, books, and travel and accommodation for attendance at residential components or supernumerary student placements. Payment may be negotiated for other costs associated with the study plan.

• You will need to claim reimbursements at the end of each semester. If you wish to be

reimbursed at the end of Semester One, evidence of successful completion of units for which you are allocated funding must be received by this office no later than 31 July 2018. Final date for receipt of evidence of successful completion of units for the 2018 Ministerial Scholarships is 14 December 2018. Failure to provide evidence of successful completion may mean that your claim is not approved for funding.

Please ensure that you have submitted the following evidence in support of your online application:

Active employee in a NT health service (public, private or non-government organisations) for one year or more in an approved NP candidate position (considered if applicant is on leave and has been employed more than three years)

Stating whether or not you are in receipt of other education funding

AHPRA registration NMBA registration number
