Squad Update

Catfish members finished the year with a barbecue at Margot and Rodger Milne’s. A pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all. Thank you Margot and Roger for making your home available and being such warm hosts.

Prior to the lunch the Annual General Meeting was held and Catfish Office Bearers were elected.

President – Margot Milne Secretary – Chris Porter Treasurer – John Lidstone Newsletter – Loretta Jeffers

Lit Belcher announced her resignation from Catfish. Lit’s contribution over many years as a Catfish has been a valuable one, and appreciated by all. Lit plans to continue her squad participation and will focus on the open water events.

Squad has continued throughout January on both Tuesday and Thursday nights, thanks to Rob Berry and Aileen Keating. Saturday and Sunday mornings at Torquay have also continued as an important part of the open water preparation.

Swim Reports

WOW Challenge - Williamstown

John Lidstone made his journey to Williamstown on a very hot day a worthwhile exercise, bringing home a medal for 3rd place in the 1.2k swim – 70+ category. John was the only Catfish to participate in this event.

John Lidstone – 3rd Place – 70+ 1.2k swim

Rock to Ramp - Anglesea

A sunny day at Point Roadnight presented classic Anglesea conditions, with a few breakers at the start and finish and some gentle swell across the back section of the swim. The conditions suited John who placed 3rd in the 70+ in the 1.2k swim. Graham was not far behind the leaders, placing 4th in the 65-69 for the 1.2k swim. Other squad members to participate were Ben, Bob, Dirk and Loretta.

Ripview Swim Classic

Conditions at Point Lonsdale for the Ripview Swim were challenging, with very choppy water. This was compensated by some assistance from a tidal drift. The chop did not interfere with John’s performance, achieving 3rd place again in the 1.2k swim. Graham also did well with a 4th place. Other squad members to complete the swim included Ben, Dirk, Loretta.

Pier to Pub

Conditions at Lorne were perfect; a sunny day and a fairly flat sea made for an enjoyable swim. Some impressive waves at the finish gave swimmers the opportunity to body surf those final few meters. Catfish squad swimmers to participate included John, Graham, Dirk, and Loretta.

Danger 1000

Torquay conditions were as good as they can get and as a result times were impressive. Both John and Graham achieved 3rd place in their age categories.
