FOREWORD BY THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PREMIER. MR DON DUNSTAN.

FOR "SOUTH AUSTRALIA - 1888"T

The upsurge of interest in recent years in the history of Australian settlement has been dramatic and welcome*

The new demand for Australiana has been met by a variety of history and travel books, coffee table books, facsimile reproductions* All the major Australian publishers have issued such titles*

Alan Osterstock is making a special individual contribution and a particularly interesting one*

His previous experience in this field was a successful facsimile print of "The History of Adelaide and Vicinity"

in limited edition, and two books on the Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island*

This book is more ambitious in scope, depicting South

Australia as it was about half a century after colonisation*

It is a very happy blend of superb illustration and text.

The story itself is a fascinating one, told in a lively style, while Mr Osterstock1s treatment of the fine old woodcuts is a joy.

Young South Australians learning of their heritage and older readers alike will find lasting pleasure here.

Mr Osterstock is a skilled and meticulous craftsman and his evident pleasure in producing this book will be shared by all his readers*
