What happened?

Triples Championship

Congratulations to all players for winning through to the semi-finals, which were played under blustery conditions on Saturday, 3 September.

Semi-final 1 Sam Wilson, Phil Wilson and Kel Sullivan 31 defeated Warren Phillips, Voytek Lasek, and Frank Jones 20

Semi-final 2 John Bonsall, Terry Rae and Jim Brown 25 defeated Steve Parry, Michael Ryan and Mat George 12

Triples Final

By agreement between the two teams, the final was played the following day (Sunday, 4th September). Jimmy Brown, on behalf of his team, acknowledged the generous sportsmanship shown by Kel’s team to hold the final early. Had the final been played the following weekend, a substitute player would have played in Jim Brown’s place.

This was a very competitive and see-sawing event: 2 all, 3 all, 6 all, 12 all (14th end); 16 all (18th end); 22-20 (24th end) finally finishing 22-21. Team Brown was the eventual winner. For the spectators watching it was an extremely entertaining final whereby every player made great shots to prevent their opponents having an easy time of it.

Congrats to all the finalists but in particular to the winners: John, Terry and Jim, the 2016 PHBC Triples Champions.

Russell McGarrity

Winners Terry, John and Jim, Runners up Sam, Kel and Phil with Ken Byatt.
