Henceforth the cinematographer will preserve the technical demonstrations of eminent men, and, in every quarter of the globe, will display their skill to those who have not the means or opportunity to be present at the operation. In any case, major surgical operations occur only at long intervals, and then only privileged surreons are admitted to the operating table, and each can focus his vision and mind on only one phase of the operation.

A portion of this screen, instead of being covered with brown paper, may have a piece of yellow or ruby paper, provided for photographic purposes, laid on the i~; two thicknesses will be needed. The majority of amateur photographers seem to have little idea of the comparative speed at which their shutters and the motorcars operate.

The average speed of the cars during the race is between 90 and 1000 miles per hour, and it is extremely difficult to press the lever just as they are facing the camera, as the engines seem to whiz past the viewer. In order to obtain even sharp images of the races, the shutter in the focal plane must be operated at the highest possible speed and the aperture on the hood reduced to a minimum. One of the illustrations reproduced here shows two cars racing: in the famous heat of the deal at the first meeting at Brooklands, the e~posura was only r-rooo seconds, but even then the front car is slightly blurred.
Naturally, press photographers are present at the races, and at one of the last meetings of the season, where a fatal accident occurred, several of these gentlemen. There is a very convenient hill inside the track from which pictures of the race track can be taken under any advantage of light and position, and this greatly assists the numerous amateur and professional photographers. A general view of the enclosure and stand, taken from this hill, is here given, and helps to convey an idea of the enormity of the course, which cost about a quarter of a million sterling.
