The Gwydir Valley had sufficient MU's to tally some averages and compare for new varieties.

Sprays:
Average sprays/ha
Namoi 9.6
Gwydir 9.7 Macquarie 9. 6 Macintyre 9. 7 St George 9.1
Generally over 50% of sprays were with Endosulfan or Endosulfan mixes. Pyrethroids accounted for around 10 to 17% of sprays, depending on the region. More use of Carbamates and
Profenofos, around 10% each, and sucking pest sprays at around 10%.
Insects;
A heavy year in some areas.
St George had some very high egg peaks, between 20 and 50, with a couple of records over the 100/m. Peaks of larvae around 3/m occurred 5 times.
In other regions, peaks of egg lays between 5 and 8 eggs/m, with lows of around 2 eggs/m, and larvae ranging between 1 and 2/m for most of the season. Gwydir experienced a build up in late March to 4 larvae/m, Macintyre a build up to 4/m in late February.
Weather:
Most sites followed the same pattem ... Wann and not too wet Most locations received average weather for October, followed by hotter weather in Nov/Dec with more daydegrees than average.
The rain in January seemed to bring the hot spell to an end. Most locations received around IOOmms of rain in January or February. or both. February/March was generally a litte wanner than average, and April closely mapping the average. April was a nice dry month for picking, with most areas receiving no rain at all.
I hope the season went well for you this year.
Regards, Carol Jeffries
