Using the best of face-face and online teaching
Pre-covid teaching face to face -
using a variety of group activities to engage
students
During Covid – teaching online via Zoom, using
Mentimeter, an interactive teaching tool to engage students
What is a report?
Bachelor in Computing System Post-Covid class on writing a technical report
Using PowerPoint slides embedded in Mentimeter
• Students are asked to log in and they could follow the slides on the PowerPoint and input
answers according to the questions I have for them
Online Interactive activities via
laptops
Interacting via
mobile phones
• Opportunity for all students to see
everybody’s ideas and yet it’s anonymous
• Encourage participation especially the quieter ones
Example of the input of students’ ideas through Mentimeter as shown on screen
• Everyone was engaged in these activities
created a rich pool of ideas from everyone
Students can have
hands-on experience on using online tools, e.g Grammarly
premium, Academic
Phrasebank or Writing Doctor (PreTurn-it-in) to check for plagiarism
Face to face activities for students to engage
collaboratively in class
• Participation by all
• Sharing perspectives
• Group decision making
• Thinking skills to give rationale of their idea
• Encouraging inclusiveness
• Presenting the group’s answer
Comparing ideas from the other group – they have to justify why
Students asked to work on a print-out activity sheet individually and then compare answers by pair work
Activity to get each group to sum up
what an A+ report looks like
Class lecturer to give
feedback of her expectation on group’s view on an A + report
Summing the session with a game
