FROM THE New Devel
DIRECTOR....
nt s
Following the approval of a Course Accreditation Committee recently, the College is planning actively co introduce Ehe new two-year course,
Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Agricultural Mechanisation), from the beginning of 1988. I ask members of ROCA Eo publicise this ne\t developmenc and to suggest that interested persons contact the College for detailed informat ion.
Design and documentation work for rhe new Agriculture Building is progressing rapidly and tenders are expected ro be called tithin a fer^r weeks. The building, costing, about $1.8 million, is expected to be occupied before August 1988. It will provide valuable new teaching and
office space.
Prornorional Video
Generous sponsorship by the National Ausrralia Bank has enabled the College co use the professional skills of Adelaide TV Channel 9 co produce a
17-rninute video to promote che College and its courses. Copies of the video will be distributed widely ro schools, CES Centres and similar referral points, as well as being a feature of College displays at Shows
and Field Days. The video is expect.ed ro be released publicly late in July.
1987 I'linter Intercoll
The College will be a major parcicipant in the sports cornpecitions between
students from colleges of advanced education chroughout Australia next week. In addition to providing sPorting venues' the College also will be providing enterEainm€nt, accotmodation and meal facilities for the nany hundreds of participants. The 1987 Intercoll will be opened by Mr Terry Hemmings, MP, representing the Premier, on Monday July 6.
Federal Funding
Although it is traditional around budget cine for tales of difficulc circumsEances to prevail and for warnings of financial stringencies co emerge, this year ic seems very likely that the College, along with other tertiary institutions, will be required co inplement significant econornies in the light of limitations in recurrent and other funding. As a result of the May Economic Statement, the College is likely to receive about $70,OOO
less next year than it otherwise might have expecced and general financial pressures will contribute to the Collegers difficulties in providing additional new staff, for example to support the introduction of the nert Agricultural Mechanisation course next year.
I look forward to meeting ROCA members at the Annual General Ueeting and Reunion on September 11.
members of the Collegers scaff will be at Lhe Collegers stand Show if you would like to make contact with us.
