Welcome to The Sydney Hills! As a new resident, you have a great opportunity to explore your new home.

The Hills Shire Council in conjunction with Hills, Hawkesbury & Riverlands Tourism (HHART) covers a wide expanse from North Parramatta right out to Wisemans Ferry and Cattai on the magnificent Hawkesbury River.

To make the most of your Shire, take a look around and explore! Council and HHART offer many great ways to help you enjoy your own backyard where everything is “closer than you think!”

There are two accredited Visitor Information Centres that service The Sydney Hills. Both are staffed by a friendly and enthusiastic group of tourism volunteers providing welcoming service, seven days a week.

The Centres provide information on events, accommodation, restaurants, attractions, conference/wedding venues, kids holiday camps, free maps and so much more. There are tours available at both properties to learn about their history (see below for centre details).

Rouse Hill Visitor Information Centre, Mungerie House

The newest Hills centre is located just off Windsor Road within historic Mungerie House, a homestead dating back to the 1870’s. There is an interpretation room that currently screens an educational short film on the battle of Vinegar Hill. There is also a permanent exhibition of lifesize wooden pioneer family and a single soldier. Created by the master champion chainsaw carver Kevin Gilders in 2001 for the Centenary of Federation. Tours are FREE however we appreciate a gold coin donation to go towards special projects for Mungerie House.

Dural Visitor Information Centre, Roughley House &

The Pines

Set on a hill at Dural with views across to the Blue Mountains the Centre shares the property with historic Roughley House (circa 1856) and property The Pines. The Pines is home to the concert series called Jazz at The Pines which runs throughout the warmer months every year. At Jazz you can bring your own picnic lunch and relax to the sweet sounds of live music. Free tours of Roughley House are also offered throughout the afternoon. A wonderful way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon!

There are also a few satellite Visitor Centres throughout the Shire so help is never far away;

• The Hills Shire Council Chambers 3 Columbia Court, Baulkham Hills

• Rouse Hill House and Farm 21 Guntawong Road, Rouse Hill

(Windsor Road entrance, opposite Annangrove Road, will be opened late 2011)

• Convict Road Kiosk

Old Northern road, next to Wisemans Ferry Park and beside main car ferry
