Almost in the middle of the Lowlands is Peebles, a county whose eastern border encloses the city. It was inevitable - and like so many other Scots - he felt the call of the newer lands. Fisher has been appointed to represent Eagley Mills wool and worsted divisions.

Although we have a pretty good idea about the quality of the goods we make and. It won't be long before the participants' strategy will be felt in the family's wallet. But the old building has given us a very interesting memory from the past.

News of 91 F & G Stores

34;CULLED FROM THE COUNTRYSIDE"

These views are so typical of the modernized layout and services found in our "out of town" stores today that we could proclaim to citizens throughout the metropolitan area, "You're seriously wrong for the suburbs!". William Gibson, however, apparently planned to run this store as a sort of personal venture, that is, outside of the partnership of the parent organization. In those w occupied (and ildlt"ig two floors on the other side is the rear side of the construction of houses.

Charles Canham, who is now in charge of mealtime inquiries at the Bourke Street Store, will mark 45 years of service this June. Although Chapel Street (like Smith Street) may have felt the "difference" when the shopping habits of Melbourne shoppers changed soon after. With 24 modern windows on the ground floor, larger than the glass in the City Store, the facade offers an impressive welcome.

On the ground floor, in addition to the usual departments, are the clothing materials, electrical plates, manchester and menswear departments, and of course the cornucopia grocery and delicatessen, the pride of the Store. Some of the vital records of the wartime operations of this branch of the services were kept here. The importance of this work may be inferred from the fact that the decorated and much-loved Squadron-Leader Goodwin of the R.A.F., who was from London, was appointed to take charge of this section.

For the fund to function effectively, the details of any emergency must of course be communicated to the trustees. No name will be mentioned in the details of the Foundation's activities which will be published from time to time.

Can I rely upon you?

Members of the better class street cricket teams will probably remember him as the "Champion of Subs!". The club would be very happy to hear from anyone who can take the first aid kit to the games on Saturday mornings. During the summer months a competition was held under the auspices of the Lunch-time Street Cricket Association.

After each team had played nine games, Weaving topped the list with Hosiery in second place. Others are of opinion that it was caused by giving a certain Dye-house player a license for Spinning. Everyone's thanks go to Lorraine Bathman, of Weaving, for her help in designing the very attractive flag.

We are constantly reminded by the daily press of the seriousness of the fuel position. You may be interested in a brief description and some brief notes on the formation and nature of our lignite, and some early history of the lignite mines. Some of the coals also contain abundant resin in lumps up to six inches in diameter, but to date no fossil insects have been found in the resin.

The balance of the material is naturally formed from the deposition of vegetation from the forests. Most of the coal in this area lies deep and is in seams up to 140 feet.

The Gibsonia Social Club

McCurrach (all City)

The season was a resounding success, both from the point of view of the players and the spectators. We take this opportunity of thanking the executive of the Gibsonia Social Club for their co-operation and assistance given to the Cricket Association during the season, and especially express our appreciation for the donation of the Prime Minister's Shield. The annual meeting of the Cricket Association will be held in the Fitzroy Dining Hall on Wednesday 8th June at 6pm.

For further meeting details see notice boards in all mill shops and sections and contact your club secretary. Jack Hirst, the renowned manager of Dye House, Eagley Mills, will probably be more than embarrassed to read this, but the gesture is necessary. Hirst's name was dropped from the list of contributors to the annual picnic prize fund.

It seems only right that the employees of the factory know how strong the interest of the management is in all employee social matters.

It was a strange experience to be able to shout greetings to the various army personnel on the road along the Channel, and, somehow, a little sad to hear an unmistakable raw Cockney accent or broad Scots of some fed up with hearing Tommy rant. if we can give him a lift to "Blighty." There are many attractive private residences along the canal banks. 34;On the exodus we were not allowed to land at Port Said, because of the trouble in Egypt. 34;By the look of many passengers, as they rejoined the ship, laden with parcels, affairs on shore must have been highly satisfactory to the shopkeepers.

Anyway, the Bay of Biscay wasn't far away and we thought the fez might serve some other purpose if the antics of this boisterous Australian Bight counterpart were up to normal standards. With the help of one of the flight attendants, we eventually went down the gangway. 34;We were very polite and friendly in the customs shed and made it safely to the waiting train.

NOTE.—The person affectionately referred to as "E" is, of course, the charming and devoted Mrs. Could anything be more descriptive of the service that departments expect from the mill. After a visit to the mill, the group was invited to write down their impressions of what they had seen.

I emerged from this contraption looking much more presentable, and so proceeded to the next stage of my production, the "dip". From there I proceeded to the dyeing department, and thence to the looms, with several of my companions.

There would be little point in using this column as an extra blackboard, because those who are already being taught probably know more about it than we do - and those who don't attend courses won't be interested anyway. Hill, soon corrected this uncomfortable condition by placing me in a machine that gave me the equivalent of what people call a "grooming." I was then placed into a machine which rolled me into long flat strips, and I proceeded from it through a number of highly technical processes, winding from one piece of machinery to another, slowly drawing out, twisting and processing until finally I emerged. as a round, firm, ball of wool.

The process of transforming me into a rather presentable tweed coat is a highly complicated one, which I will not attempt to describe at length, as I lack both the vocabulary and the necessary technical knowledge with which to do it. Suffice it to say that I went through a large number of machines that took my threads and those of my fellow humans and turned them into a high quality product that was a tribute to the workers who made me participated. Laugh if you want, but this young man's knowledge of what goes on in the mill is much deeper than before his visit.

Next time we can't reach him at his office, we'll definitely try the Grooming Department. All kidding aside, but the paths a diligent Staff Training student must take are well worth the journey.

Personalities

Put your hands together for ALAN WILD (Merchandise Control, City), who became a dad when Grant Alan Wild arrived on 23rd April. It is also not too late to confirm good wishes for ELSIE McINTOSH (Mr Kelly's office, City). ), who were married on April 20. Just another riot and a bag full of good wishes for BOB SHARPE (Weaving, Eagley), who retired on April 1st.

DORRIE STRINGER married Bill Killeen at the Methodist Church, Northcote, on April 16, while JACK RYAN sealed his fate on Easter Saturday. His many friends will be relieved to know that KEITH BARTLETT (Malvern Warehouse), who is secretary of the local social club, is making good progress following the accident involving a motorcycle spill in March. The good wishes of their many friends bore fruit in helping them through their respective trials.

He is not quite "out of the woods" yet, but if good wishes help, an early and complete recovery is assured. Being one of the Adelaide Tube Room stalwarts, it didn't occur to her friends until afterwards that their parting gift of a vacuum cleaner might seem tame – by comparison. From the Collingwood Office comes news of the marriage of MARJORIE HARRISON to Walter Johns on April 26, while MARIE LE ROSSIGNOL announced her engagement to Graham Burgoyne at Easter.

On the 21st of May we said goodbye to ELEANOR LEWIS (Town Central) who is now in favor of life in the country. She should feel quite "at home" with the socks she now has to mend. In the meantime, congratulations and best wishes from everyone.
