Stawell Easter Gift Little Athletics Telstra Stores Events 2017

Dear Athlete

Please be reminded these events will be conducted under Victorian Athletic League rules and conditions, therefore it is imperative you make yourself familiar with the rules, conditions and guidelines within this document prior to your event.

The timetable for events throughout the weekend is as follows;

ACCEPTANCE RULE

Athletes must report to the Stawell Athletic Club (SAC) marquee located near the circular finish line in front of the SAC pavilion at least 20 minutes prior to your event to accept your start in the event. This is to assist with scratchings and information being placed on the scoreboard during events. Failure to accept will automatically

scratch you from the race. You will not be able to take your place at the start line.

If you are in several events throughout the weekend you can accept for the first race and subsequent events at the same time.

Prizes to the value of the below figures will be allocated as follows;

Note: Prize money will not be awarded this year.

Every participant in the Stawell Gift meeting will receive a commemorative t-shirt as part of your registration kit. These can be collected from the LAVic/Telstra marquee located at the top end of Central Park. This marquee will be operational from 90mins prior to the first Little Athletics event on each day throughout the weekend.

HANDICAPS

A full list of events and individual handicaps are available by clicking here.

Handicaps may be altered at the discretion of the organising body they can be subjected to change prior/during the event.

Please note LAVic will be enforcing strict sanctions on athletes who have not provided correct information relevant to their personal best performances. Prizes may be revoked and suspensions applied in accordance with VAL rules.

WARMING UP

Athletes may warm up on the arena, however when events are being conducted you must sit down in the middle of the venue. This is a VAL rule in which fines and/or penalties may be enforced.

UNIFORMS

Athletes are required to wear Centre uniform throughout the weekend. When

running in your various events you will be issued with a singlet (colour) which must be placed over the top of your Centre uniform.

At the conclusion of your warm up and prior to the event, these colours can be collected from the SAC stewards located in the middle of the venue at the left of the sprint track when looking towards the scoreboard. The stewards will have a program and advise you your colour and number.

Colour boys/girls will collect these singlets from you at the conclusion of the event.

These singlets must be returned as they are required throughout the carnival.

Please note: you cannot walk around the inside of the venue without a singlet or t- shirt. Running attire must be worn under VAL rules otherwise a fine and/or penalties may be enforced.

100m EVENTS

For those athletes wishing to use starting blocks you can bring your own or they will be supplied by LAVic. These will be available at the 100m start.

Athletes can place the front block or foot behind the start line where they have been handicapped. So long as this block is on the line it does not matter if your hands are in front of the line.

 There is a limit of 26m applied to handicaps for the 100m event

400m EVENTS

These events are not run in lanes and there may be up to 15 athletes in heats. You cannot use starting blocks as this is an unlaned event.

 There is a limit applied to handicaps for the 400m events.

 You must be well clear before passing and moving to the inside.

800m EVENTS

These events do not start in lanes and there may be up to 15 athletes in heats.

1600m EVENT

This events has a maximum of 55 runners in the field.

 There is a limit applied to handicaps for the 1600m event.

 You must be well clear before passing and moving to the inside.

PROGRESSIONS TO FINALS

These will be advised in the program and in your registration packs. Athletes will be advised over the public address system who has made the final. If you have any queries you can visit the SAC or LAVic marquee for more information.

 100m - First in each heat plus the next fastest times to make up 16 boys and 16 girls in the semi-finals (there are 13 boys and 10 girls heats)

 100m – First two in each semi-final plus the next fastest 4 advance to final

 400m - First in each heat (10 heats)

 800m - First in each heat plus the next 3 fastest times (7 heats)

Please note LAVic reserves the right to alter handicaps between heats and finals.

STARTING

Different starting techniques apply in professional running as athletes are spread around the arena on handicaps. The following starting procedures will apply;

100m Normal starting procedures, with On Your Marks, Set and the Gun.

400m to 1600m Two whistles and the gun, First whistle is on your marks, second whistle is set, then the gun.

PENALTIES FOR BREAKING

In professional footrunning penalties are applied if you break as follows;

100m 1 metre penalty 400m 2 metre penalty 800m 2 metre penalty 1600m 5 metre penalty

Two breaks will be automatic disqualification

Note : If you break in a heat and make the final your original handicap is restored

LINING UP FOR YOUR RACE

 In sprint events you will line up at the end of the track in a line whilst the starter tells the field his instructions. You will then be told to walk to your marks or handicaps.

 In a circular event all athletes will be whistled to line up at the backmarkers handicap. This means the spot where the athlete with the lowest handicap is starting. You will be given instructions by the starter then told to walk to your marks or handicaps.

Don't be too concerned about where you have to go. There will be plenty of help from SAC and LAVic officials to assist you in finding your mark. Parents/Coaches if you get a chance it might be helpful to assist your athletes by pointing out the spot

throughout the day or weekend.

PRIZES

 There will be no prize money for our event winners this year.

Instead prizes to similar value of last years cash awards will be presented on the day of the event.

PRESENTATIONS

 If you win a final you will be required to attend the presentation dais to collect your sash and trophy immediately following the event, please don’t forget to thank our partners ‘Telstra Stores’

ACCESS TO THE ARENA

 You may have one parent or coach with you on the field when warming up or competing. Immediately following the event everybody needs to leave the arena.

USE OF SPIKES

 Spikes may be worn by all athletes in all events under VAL rules. There are no size restrictions as to the length of your spikes.

CROUCH STARTS

 Crouch starts are permitted (not mandatory) in all events 3 POINT STARTS

 3 point starts where your hand touches the ground forward of the line, yet your foot is behind the line are permitted in circular events. This is an alternate to the crouch/standing start.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Photographs will be taken by the Stawell official photographer and will be on display and available for purchase throughout the weekend at Central Park. Little Athletics Victoria will also have a photo display following the weekend on the LAVic website

KIDS ATHLETICS CLINIC

On Sunday morning a kids athletics clinic will be conducted by elite athletes who are competing in a variety of events at the Stawell Gift carnival. This will take place at Central Park, Stawell beginning at 9.00am. Entry is free but registration is still required – for more information please click here.

ADMISSION PRICES

Athletes are admitted free on every day of the Stawell Gift carnival from Friday through to Monday. You are to collect athlete passes from the Hall of Fame room.

Please note that there are strict times in place to conduct various events due to time restrictions throughout the weekend in conducting the program, therefore you must be ready at the advertised time.
