T H E efforto to form a Masonic Lodge in connection with the University came to a successful conclusion on 16th December, 1891, when the Melbourne University.Lodge, No. 171, was consecrated.

T h e objects in forming the Lodge were three. First, to bring together (on the principle of " u n i o n is strength "jaU University Masons, now scattered through some hundred and seventy lodges throughout Victoria, and thus give them more influence in the-management of Masonic affairs than they possess a t present. Secondly, to form a L o d g e J n which University men who wished to become Masons could do EO among their own kith and kin instead of among strangers.
Thirdly, to form a meeting place for past a n d present Studente for aU time, and thus be the nearest approach to a University Club.

The Lodge meets on the first Monday in every month, at the Freemasons' Hall, Collins-street, at 8 p.m., and member- ship is limited to Graduates or Undergraduates of some University, or recognized members of the clerical, medical, i legal, or engineering professions.
• FEES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS.
The total fees for intending members- who are not Masons are an initiation fee of five guineas and an annnal subscription of three guineas. For intending members who are Masons there is a joining fee of one guinea, and an annnal subscrip- tion of three guineas.
The annual subscription of those members of the Lodge who reside in the country and cannot attend often is reduced to one guinea; and in all cases the annual subscription is reckoned from date of joining, the expired portion of the year not being charged for.
The installation of the Worshipful Master and Officers for the ensuing twelve months takes place on the first Monday in December in each year.
