“The Office”
From our President
Another year has flown by and as this will be the last newsletter for 2018, I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to those many wonderful volunteers who continue to offer their time unselfishly to our great club. This Club is based on your contributions and across many areas you do us proud.
As suggested in my midyear report, some of our Executive Committee and some of our volunteers have served for a number of years and at the December meeting Robyn White, who has served with distinction as the Director of Social for 8 ½ years has tendered her resignation.
Any member who would like to consider joining the Executive Committee as Social Director is invited to contact myself or the office. Robyn has strong committee support in the Social area and the position offers a deal of personal satisfaction.
To all of our 900 wonderful members in all categories, I extend my best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Stay safe whether you are travelling or celebrating at home.
I look forward to 2019 with confidence that our great club will continue to grow and prosper.
Phil Anning President
Ladies Bowls – Patsy Smith, Captain
Ladies bowls is slowing down after a very successful day on Thursday. It was great to see so many players in Christmas Theme dress.
I would especially like to thank Margaret Hall for organising the ham for the raffle and Glen Terhoeve for donating the wine.
On Tuesday we will have social bowls and then go into recess until January. Of course you will be able to play scroungers on Friday afternoon.
Charts are going up for January events. The nominated pairs event on January 15th is not sponsored and is open to all. It will be AM only. If you don't have a partner come along anyway. A chart will go up this week for the Novices. The event is likely to be a round robin so will be played over a number of time slots to suit the competitors. Once we know who is playing we will negotiate times. Players must be full members and wear club uniform.
Men’s Bowls – Doug Myers, Captain
Twenty teams competed in the Tyrepower Open Men’s Fours on Sunday and, while the numbers were a bit disappointing, it turned out to be a successful day for the club. The event was won by a Warnbro team comprised of John Trewhella, Alan Cowie, Dennis Nagle and Matt Trewhella. The runners/up were Rob Tiller, Mark Simpson, Steve Withers and Russell Tyrell from Dudley Park.
Bruce Walter, Peter Nicolay, Noel Jarvis and Jack Groves came in with a credible third placing.
Mandurah Tyrepower donated a set of tyres that were raffled to contribute to the substantial prize money that was allocated to the day. Joy Burkett’s ticket selling skills enabled us to draw the
Ladies, we need players for a social game with the FIRIES members on January 6th. There is a chart up for names.
So please sign up
Coral Anning and her crew excelled again with their food preparation and service; they certainly do our club proud. Max Hughes was his usual energetic self in badgering people to nominate for this event and helping out on the day. Thanks Max; maybe we can attract more participants next year.
Club stalwart Bill Warner caused considerable concern when he experienced pain in his shoulders and chest on Sunday afternoon. Bill was taken away by ambulance as a precautionary measure but was given the all clear after tests at Peel Health Campus. Typically, Bill was back at the club with the green maintenance group on Monday morning.
Forty-two players turned up to Men’s Social Bowls last Wednesday so we ran 14 teams of triples.
The winning team was comprised of Bill Robinson, Ron Summers and Mike Lawrence. The runners/up were Rod Connor, Jules Gianatti and Brian Marsland.
Around fifty bowlers played in Friday’s Mixed Scroungers and the day was won by Graham Johnson with Bob Jackson in second place. Jerry Gerrard won the consolation prize.
The Halls Head trio of Max Doncon, Richard Howlett and Andre Gardin had a great win in the Men’s Open Triples at Mandurah last week. Well done fellas!
