(1)TRANS TASMAN 2014. Final Report Well what a week – 30 young people aged twelve to twenty, sharing rooms, sharing meals, sharing meetings and sharing one goal – to win it back!! To all the parents of these young archers, you should be so proud. Not due to the fact that it was missioned accomplished, but more the way they went about it. All attended every meeting on time, all were in their rooms with lights off when asked and all interacted wonderfully with each other – there wasn’t a single issue that we as managers were aware of between any of the team, which is outstanding given the mix of ages, states and backgrounds. Although the withdrawal of a NZ recurve archer on the last day didn’t help their cause, the NZ management took the decision in the interest of the archer and upon reflection on the standings at the time. Australia was well in front and the situation was very unlikely to change. The final results (excluding the NZ DNF) had the compound teams within one point of each other, however we were very solid with our recurve archers. Take out Emma Nolan, Emilia Paton, Ella Byrne and Carmelo Aslanidis and it would have been a tight run thing. To have these youngsters shooting high 1200 to low 1300’s was fantastic and the real difference between the two teams. I don’t believe archery in Australia has ever been blessed with so many outstanding young recurver’s, and if we can manage to keep these guys in the sport over the next 10 years, along with our current batch of Juniors and Cadets maybe we can look forward to qualifying a couple of teams for the Olympics in 2020 and 2024 – there’ll be plenty of work to do in coming years if we want to make this a reality. And now to the many thankyou’s: To MPT Bowman for hosting the event. Dave Sutton and his team were fantastic in running a wonderful event. Nothing was a problem and no request was met with any frustration level at all. Particular thanks to all those working behind the scene ensuring we were all well fed and looked after. I really look forward to the next event they hold that I/we can participate in. To Alison Hagaman as DOS and her assistants Brian Phil and Andrew, such a tournament could not be run without your involvement. It was great to have a team who had the archer’s interests and well-being as a priority. I’m still certain that target face didn’t need to be adjusted, thus allowing Clare an extra couple of minutes to prepare after her medical time out  To our leadership team of Emily Sutton, Josh Carroll, Jess Greenstein and Alec Potts. Your input throughout the management meetings was greatly appreciated. It was great that all of you were so keen to participate in both meeting discussions and decisions. To my management team of Ben Pawson, Graham Winston, Gisela Paton, Laura Pedan and Brent Byrne it was great working with all of you, and all your efforts, however small you thought they were, were of great assistance to me and the team. Ben in particular for your input and different view of things, it was great to bounce things off each other with no ego’s involved. I look forward to the possibility of working with you all in the future. To Ben and Graham and your work with teams equipment. From rebuilding bows, resetting V bar threads, fixing nocking points, fletching arrows, replacing nocks, repairing release aids, replacing arrow rests and fixing stabilizer mounts (I think that was it ) your efforts allowed the archers to focus on what they were there to do, and it had a lot to do with the final outcome of the tournament. Also thanks for your efforts with individual archers ensuring they were in the right “head space”.. (2) To Graham as team systems analyst, being able to set up a spreadsheet so we could keep on top of where we were at after each distance was fantastic and allowed me to keep any stress level under control. To the parents of all the team, thanks for letting us have your young ones for the week, and thanks for leaving them in our hands. I know it was difficult for those on site to stay away, and also to those at home not getting much feedback from your child, but your lack of contact did allow us to ensure they were focussed on the job at hand. And finally to the archers on the team. I have been involved in a number of teams in a number of sports, but to have thirty of you in such close confines, with such varying ages and all so keen and focussed on the job at hand was an absolute pleasure!!!! Housekeeping Although the week may be over there is a little more required from all. Archers: Can you please forward a short report on the week. Positives and negatives please. Parents: Those with Cub and Intermediate archers, I would be pleased if you would add anything either separately or on the bottom of your child’s reports. Managers: Could I trouble all of you for a short report also. Please prepare your reports as PDF’s and I will collate them and send them ALL with my report to Archery Australia. I’d like these back by 15th October so I can have them in to AA before I go overseas for work.. Photos I have collated the three disks given to me by Graham (photographer) into a file of currently 170 pics and added a number of photos I took. If anyone has pics that they think others would like to see, please forward these to me. In a couple of weeks I will mail either a disc or USB to each of the team.. FITA (WA) and AA Medals Attached is a list of medals each archer can claim. Please let me know by the 15th which of these you’d like to claim and arrangements will be made to get them to you – generally via your club. There is a cost associated with these and general practice is that you will be asked to reimburse your club. Scores for Thursday and Friday As the scores are not yet on the AA website, for those interested, I have also attached these to this email.. Best wishes to all.
