Understanding Applied syllabuses — online course
Purpose
To advise schools that the QCAA has released an online course called Understanding Applied syllabuses. The course offers information and advice to assist teachers to understand and implement the Applied syllabuses.
Background
The QCAA presented face-to-face workshops across Queensland in 2019 to support teachers to implement Applied syllabuses.
The QCAA is committed to ongoing professional development and has created an online course that builds on these workshops and provides a resource that can be used by teachers and heads of departments (HODs).
Information
The online course Understanding Applied syllabuses provides advice and guidance on:
• the course requirements for an Applied syllabus
• making judgments
• awarding unit and exit results
• the quality assurance process.
The QCAA continues to work with schools to transition to new quality assurance processes for the Applied syllabuses. As part of that, this course will help Queensland teachers build
confidence in making judgments and awarding unit and exit results.
The course is suitable for beginning teachers, those teaching an Applied syllabus for the first time or as a refresher for teachers who attended a face-to-face workshop. It could be used by
individual teachers for continuing professional development or as a resource for discussion at a staff or department meeting.
The course is available via the Learning Hub application in the QCAA Portal. Access can be granted for new users by the school’s Access Management Organisation Administrator.
