Dear Glenys
I am contacting you as Sue fV1cCauley's agent.
This email is in connection with her Sanatorium interview collection at the Alexander Turnbull Library. I have just written a PhD History thesis on the social history of TB and associated public health campaigns from World War 2 to the 1970s. I listened to her interviews and thought they were superb and have included some of the material in a chapter on sanatorium life.
Copies of theses are now held digitally as well as in hard copy by the University Library and I wish to ask her permission to submit a digital copy with her material in the thesis. Naturally, I have acknowledged her interviews throughout the text where appropriate, as well as in the Acknowledgem ents.
I would appreciate it if you could pass my request on to Sue and would be happy to answer any questions at all.
Kind regards Debbie Dunsford 094103696
PS: My sister in law is Cathie Dunsford and I think I have had brief contact with you some years ago.

Hello Debbie,
.t'age 1or 1
Glenys sent on your email. Of course you have my permission, I'm delighted that someone is taking an interest in NZ's TB history, and in the tapes. I did try to find a publisher interested in publishing edited version of the interviews, but no luck.
Good on you and best wishes, Sue

I have recently completed my PhD on the social history of
tuberculosis in NZ at the University of Auckland. As theses are now made available digitally through the University's website, I am
writing to request permission to include a copy of a photo from the ATL collection in the digital copy.
The photographs were both in the Taranaki Herald on 6 May 1946 and were of (a) Dedication of X-ray Unit at Waitara and (b) Lady Pomare at dedication of X-ray Unit.
Please come back to me with any questions.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your email (below).
I have spoken with the Archivist in charge of Permissions and she has informed me that she does not require you to seek permission from Archives New Zealand to have the contents of your PhD thesis digitally available through the University's website. We just ask that you sight the poster correctly for future reference. As Mr.
Thompson would have required Permission before publishing in 2003, the way he has sighted the poster in his book should be the way we asked him to do so in his Permission to Publish letter.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for your email regarding permission to publish an image from the Harold Turbott Papers [archives reference: 88-059] in your thesis.
The Alexander Turnbull Library is concerned to give permission to publish only where copyright is no longer in force, but this can sometimes be difficult to ascertain with photographs. If the photograph was taken by Mr. Turbott then it is still within copyright.
However, if the photographer is unknown, 50 years from the time that the photograph was taken is sufficient to create a reasonable assumption that copyright no longer exists in the item.
The Alexander Turnbull Library is happy for you to reproduce this work in your thesis if you are satisfied that it is out of copyright. In all publications the Library would prefer that you use a digital, publication quality copy supplied by us.
Yours Sincerely,
Amy Watling

Dear Kate
It was good to speak to you a couple of minutes ago. This email is a request for permission to use two photographs of the Pukeora Sanatorium from your collection in my PhD thesis. The University of Auckland library will hold two bound copies and a further digital copy will be on the university's website.
The photos I wish to include are the aerial photo of the whole sanatorium and the Taranaki bowls team, both from the 1940s (attached as jpgs). If you know who the photographer was, I would include that information in the citation. I have sourced the photos to 'Max Annabell and Kate Norman Private Collection' but if you wanted me to change that, just let me know.
Looking forward to hearing from you With thanks for your help
