Vending Machines RDH Guideline

Purpose

To ensure vending machines provide amenity for patient, visitors and staff without promoting the consumption of high sugar drinks and snacks.

Guideline

The drink and snack products that are available in vending machines in areas of RDH campus directly managed by RDH, including main block, must comply with the Healthy Food and Drink Options for Staff, Volunteers and Visitors in NT Health Facilities Policy and are restricted to those products categorised by the policy as “amber” or “green”.

The maximum number of vending machines located in these areas is restricted to 10 drink and 10 snack machines.

The location of vending machines in these areas is restricted to non-ward areas (floors) and they must not be positioned in highly trafficked areas.

Vending machine locations are: main block ground floor near lifts (1 snack machine, 1 drink machine), main block ground floor corridor to Emergency Department (2 snack machines, 2 drink machines), main block ground floor Emergency Department entrance (2 snack machines, 2 drink machines), main block first floor staff lounge (1 snack

machine, 1 drink machine), Lorraine Brennan Self Care (1 snack machine, 1 drink machine), Building 4 (2 snack machines, 2 drink machines), and Hospice (1 snack machine, no drink machine).1
