Each of us is a certain piece of the mosaic that makes up our present-day civilization. Many of these bonds are evident in the daily lives that we members of this organization live together. While discussing the contents of the Lilydale picnic basket:—. Note: The above conversation was overheard in the town store.

Everyone appreciates the difference this hour makes to enjoying the Saturday half-day. Perhaps it should be mentioned that her guests were all women - company women.

The Ground Plan

Solving the Housing Problem

In addition to actually working on weekends and all holidays, an aspiring builder must study the next phase of the work, all the way through. We hope to move in around July, which is about 2i years since the blocks started being made. Construction costs will be slightly less than half of the contractor's costs.

Scotland Has Them Too

One morning, when we got to work, we found a sheet of white paper approx. 28 inches by 14 inches glued very securely to the window with a "Mr. As most of you know, the stock is indicated by different letters, according to season, Z. The picturesque surroundings of the town, including Lake Reserve, Vansittart Park and Cave Gardens, are a never-failing attraction for visitors.

The fertile volcanic soil of the town and district, and the excellent water supply, afford the people the opportunity of cultivating gardens under the most favorable conditions, and of this they have particularly profited of late years. Within a few miles of the city, white coralline limestones and gray, pink, and red dolomite abound, and business houses and residences are, consequently, built for the most part of the stone. Much has been done in recent years in exploiting the large deposits of abundant coral limestone near the mountain.

Now all the main roads of the city have been bituminized and the work is constantly being extended. The Blue Lake, the largest and most prominent of the four, is nearly oval in shape, is about 165 13. The shores around the lake, a large part of them covered with trees and flowering shrths in their natural state, are very charming for him. the eye of the lover of the picturesque, although the rabble of rabbits has destroyed some of the natural beauty.

Sir, I would like to thank all my friends on the ground floor - Miss. Craig, in charge of tissues; Miss Pearce and Miss Johns, First Floor, also our Welfare Officer, Miss Goodbrand, and members of her Sunbeam Club, and others too numerous to mention, for their kindness and for visiting me when I was in hospital. - Yours, etc.,.

The Gibsonia Social Club

THE LILYDALE PICNIC

Amies had been a little worried because of the three General Directors she had only spoken about. To complete the record of the big picnic in Gibsonia, here are the names of the winners of the various adult events:-.

When we went to press with our last issue, the names of the delegates from the two Eagley Mills annexes on the main mill committee were not available. Nott and Miss Jean Warren were not only appointed representatives, but in the meantime played their part well in the various activities of the Club. Also, due to a typographical error, we omitted the names of the following officials of the mill committee: Mr.

To find a place - a shady place, out of the sun -. Some chose the nearest gum tree. At a large gathering of executives and staff in the City Dining room, Mr. Pettigrew has arrived to appoint the office of General Manager Mr. Williams, formerly responsible for the Furnishings group, as Store Manager, Bourke Street.

The "Sunbeam Club," born in Bourke Street, and one of the best self-help organizations we know, is "spreading its wings." A recent push for new members brought an excellent response from Prahran and Collingwood and increased support within the City Store itself. The Club is always glad to hear from any member of the staff interested in service to diners, and Miss Cole will be glad to give overseas addresses to anyone who wishes to write. Many good pen pals have been made in the Shop as a result of the parcels sent.

The card thread at the start of the machine is of a coarse gauge, 250 stitches per sq. The carding of the wool actually takes place at the closest point between the different revolving rolls. The material, after being transferred from one side of the machine to the other by means of the wire-covered rollers, is removed in the form of a fine film of fiber from the last doffer to the tape condenser.

Reels of condensed tape are taken from the condenser and placed on racks at the back of the mule. The card spools are placed on a rack at the top of the machine and the strips are fed through a series of rollers – a change in speed between the rollers pulls the strand to the required size or strand. The money is raised through a weekly collection, and four girls do the buying and packing.

It was soon realized that some of the boys were out to give the lie to the old adage. Speaking of bacon, did you know that one of the Trailers was very partial to pork. He came to us in 1926 when he started in the Woolen Mill Finishing Room.

Returning to Melbourne in 1934, he was appointed Manager of the Knitting Mills, holding that position until 1941.

OUR GENEROUS KINSFOLK

This letter has been published here as some reassurance to those who may think that what we do is ignored in the old country.

The Scale of Food Gifts to Britain

You could almost feel the excitement running through Collingwood when it was announced that Una Paisley had been named Vice-Captain of the Australian Women's Cricket XI. which leaves this month to play in a Test series against New Zealand. Mrs Paisley, who is a member of the General Office Staff - she is an Accounting Machine Operator - has been a cricket enthusiast all her young life. Una Paisley goes to port. an all-round good sport and a complete sport in the best sense of the term, we know that Miss Paisley will represent Australia creditably throughout the New Zealand tour.

This was your magazine's first call, and considering the short time, the result was excellent. With the impetus given by the revival of the Social Club, interest in sports of all kinds is "steamrolling." The goods were purchased in a 50-50 ratio, half of the money was provided by the Social Club, the rest in equal parts by different parts of the company.

With a long record of success over the years, Eagley plays the association on Saturday morning. Immaculately dressed in the latest American sports jersey (seven good cigars in one pocket), suede shoes, and with a watch on each wrist and a stopwatch in hand, he crept with cat-like tread along the edge of the baths, following with his head down, the movement of the swimmers, his eyes glued (in turns) to the clock faces. Then he would have seen that the edge of the pool, like all good things, was coming to an end.

The real icing on the cake for the owner of the former Seven Good Cigars (where does he get them?) was none other than John's father, Mr 34;Mick") Marshall, until recently acting manager of the Bourke Street shop.

Personalities

There was a near "photo finish" in the race between the stork and Santa Claus to get to the home of PETER CATCHLOVE (advertising manager), but the stork won by a beak's length and delivered young John Peter safely on Christmas Eve. HUGGINS (China, City) and his wife are now interested in a nice line of replicas, a new stock in the form of Leonard the Second, arrived Feb. 10. After a long service, the IVY is now going to cling tightly to the domestic oak.

She celebrated her 21st birthday on the 19th and was married to Neville Rowe at Burnley Presbyterian Church on Christmas Eve. Her many friends will regret to learn that Miss McKAY (Confectionery, City) has been given complete rest for at least two months. We see no reason not to occasionally publish an excerpt from the many letters from customers expressing their appreciation for the courteous attention of store associates.

After all, there are few people who are not better for a "pat on the back", and besides, a mere reminder that consideration for others has not completely vanished from this world should be a tonic for those who often comment. that 'things are not what they used to be'. Here are the recent opinions expressed by a customer from one country:—. Well, that's a secret, although the staff at the Girls' College Wear, City Store might recognize this as another "Bourke Street Store-y!".
