Weekly Newsletter 5th March, 2016
Our final week of competition is upon us this weekend. We finish the season on Saturday the 12th of March which is our Presentation Day. We ask that if you are NOT able to attend Presentation Day, that you email the club to let them know for catering purposes. ([email protected])
There was an unfortunate and completely avoidable incident at Mace last Saturday morning. One of our young athletes was hit in the head by a turbo jav whilst the age group were waiting for their next event. He is fine, but ended up with a possible concussion and a large haematoma on his head. Can ALL parents please be mindful that the field events use equipment that should only be used under careful supervision. This goes for turbo jav, discus, shot put and high jump. If you see any children using the equipment unsupervised, feel free to move them on, or ask one of the committee members to intervene.
This week at the BBQ we will have a one-off selling a carton of Diet Coke cans that were generously donated to us by Somerville IGA. Once they are gone, they are gone and we wont be routinely stocking them in the future. Also, could parents of the age groups rostered on to help at the BBQ please try to give up 30 minutes of your morning helping out (U7 girls & U12 boys). It's not fair to have the same people giving up their whole morning each time they are rostered on the BBQ.
Finally, James Barrett has been working hard to collate all the club records that were broken at Regionals - they are included below. The website listing has also been updated. Congratulations to all athletes who have broken a club record this season.
Last week we had 1 club record broken:
Olivia Barrett broke her U16 girls discus record with a distance of 25.06m.

Duty Roster for Saturday 5th March, 2016
Please note that we have 2 age groups rostered on to ensure that each duty is suitably attended.
Set up takes more than an hour and we really do need those rostered on to be there as required.
The committee are always on hand but as we all know many hands make light work and it makes a world of difference to how the whole day runs when we can set-up on-time for the program to start.
The following Age Groups are rostered on this weekend:
Setup: U7 Girls and Under 12 Boys
(please arrive by 7 .30am)
BBQ: Under 10 Girls and Under 9 Boys
(from set up of the BBQ at 8.45 to pack-up and clean at the day's end]
Pack Up: Under 11 Girls and Under 8 Boys
(concludes once the storage containers in the carpark are locked up)
Stawell Gift 2016 Registrations Open
**REGISTRATIONS CLOSE THIS FRIDAY THE 4TH OF MARCH AT 11.59PM**
The Stawell Gift is once again happening over the Easter weekend at the Stawell Athletics Club, and Little Athletics is again involved. This is an amazing opportunity for the kids to see how a "grown up"
athletics meet works, and is the inspiration for our own Christmas Handicap. The grass track is like carpet and the atmosphere is amazing. Registrations are now open and close at 11.59pm on Friday the 4th of March. You can register here, but please read all the Entry Requirements and Finer Details beforehand on the registration page.
Events for our Little Athletes this year include:
100m Boys (Heats SUNDAY 27th MARCH) and Semis/Finals MONDAY 28th MARCH)
100m Girls (Heats SUNDAY 27th MARCH) and Semis/Finals MONDAY 28th MARCH)
400m (Heats SUNDAY 27th MARCH / Final MONDAY 28th MARCH)

Loyalty Partner - Ritchies Community Benefits Card
We had a little bit of interest about the Ritchies and IGA Community Benefits program last week.
There are still a number of pre-linked cards ready to be picked up and used at many of their stores around the Peninsula. Once our monthly spend reaches $2000, Ritchies will donate to the club 0.5%
of all subsequent sales. We really need to embrace our loyalty partners and sponsors in the next couple of years to inject as much money into the club as possible. This will help us with our council discussions for a new track if we can contribute financially to the process. So if you shop regularly at the Mt Eliza, Balnarring, Towerhill Frankston, Somerville, Hastings, Rosebud and Dromana IGA and/or Ritchies stores (see the attachment at the end of the newsletter with a full listing of all stores who run this program), please stop by the Registration tent at Mace Oval this Saturday and pick up a card. There is nothing to fill in, the cards are already linked to us and ready to use. Or you can pick a card up from any store and link it to Mornington Little Athletics. Our CB number is 91989. Please ask extended family members who shop at these stores to consider helping us with this too. According to their website, Dromana Primary School received $906.96 for the month of January this year!!
Cross Country
The 2016 Cross Country season will commence at some stage in April and continue through until September. Please be aware that your registration payment for the 2015/16 athletics season covers your child for the 2016 season. If you know of a child who wishes to participate in Cross Country this season, but hasn't done Little Aths this past season, they can sign up for just the Cross Country season for around $60 (which covers the Little Athletics Victoria insurances). There is also a $2 payment each time your child runs to cover end of season medals. More information to come.
Results HQ
To view results this year, you will need to log in to Results HQ. You will need to have paid the club registration fee to have access. The login details are a little confusing:
Username: Your family username is the email address you used to register your primary member with (usually your oldest child)
Password: Your password is the Login ID of your primary member when you log in to LA Vic.
You can view your whole family's results on one page, and also view all MLAC results. Tickets can be printed out to paste into the Achievement book that comes with your registration pack when the registration fee has been paid. James is still tweaking the results portal, so if a feature isn't present yet, it will be there in time.
If you have registered and paid by Thursday evening and there is no bib for your child, please talk to someone at the Registration tent.
If you have any problems logging in, please contact Lisa Henry [email protected] https://www.resultshq.com.au/login
Uniforms
We have a limited number of club t-shirts, crop tops and singlets in all sizes available from the Registration tent this Saturday.
If you do not have an orange Jetstar patch for your club singlet/t-shirt, please come and get one from the Merchandise tent. All white Jetstar patches and IGA patches need to be removed from club singlets.
Parking
Please note the following parking and drop-off guidelines which we have put in place for safety reasons:
If you are dropping your child(ren) off in the car park, please do not stop just inside the gates. Drive around the car park circuit back towards the entrance and drop off on the car park side closest to the road. This avoids congestion at the entrance to Mace.
Do not park on Nepean Highway outside the entrance to Mace Oval. It is a safety issue for cars turning out of the car park.
The grass areas in the car park can be used for parking. If you have a 4WD vehicle, we ask you to park on the grass if possible to leave parks available for non 4WD cars.
Once the Mace car park is full, please park up the hill, off street, beside Balcombe Grammar School. There is a pathway from there down to the oval.
What happens in the event of Wet Weather
When the weather forecast does not look great, the committee makes a decision by 8:00 a.m. on the morning of competition whether the competition day will go ahead or be cancelled. In the event of cancellation, a notice will be posted on the following sites by 8:00 am:
Website www.morningtonlittleaths.org Facebook www.facebook.com/mlac82 Twitter @mlac82
Team App www.teamapp.com
We communicate with our members almost exclusively via electronic means. We will always email you important information, but it is also distributed via our Facebook page and Team App.
Team App
As with previous years, we will be utilising TEAM APP to get information out to our members and their families about news and events around the centre.
Download Team App (it's free!) from iTunes or the Play Store and search for Mornington Little Athletics.
We have a Facebook page filled with news and photos of our athletes.
Make sure you "Like" it to see posts in your Newsfeed. If you do not wish to have your child's photo published, please send an email to our secretary
Lisa Henry [email protected]. She will endeavour to ensure your child's photos are never published.
Weekly Program
This week’s program is Program 13 and can be downloaded by clicking here or on the club website.
If unsure of what to do on the day, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or by speaking to one of the committee members on Saturday mornings. They are easily identified in their bright orange polo shirts
