It seems that August was a busy month for MSV members, who were actively training hard to beat and set world records! The efforts of these members were rewarded in November when certificates from FINA arrived safely in the MSV office verifying two world records!
On the 5th of August, Victorian Masters member and former Australian Swimming Champion, Linley Frame, broke the FINA World record for the 50m Breaststroke – Women’s Short Course in the 40-44age group. Breaking the FINA record in her favourite stroke, Linley swam 50m in 32.20.
Two weeks later, four inspiring North Lodge women, whose ages combined to a total of 360+, attempted to set the world record in a never before attempted event. On the 18th of August, the “Golden Girls”, Clarice Artis (97), Trudy Bullivant (90), Nancy
Ayres (89) and Hazel Gillbee (84), set the FINA World Record for the 5 x 50m Freestyle – Women. The four “spring chickens”, completed the swim in a time of 5.45.34 at the Frankston Pool cheered on by fellow VNL members and the MSV community.
Congratulations to the five inspirational women on their achievements. You are certainly all motivating! The arrival of the certificates from FINA definitely caused a stir in the MSV office and hopefully the MSV community.
