Study on Behaviour of Rhesus Monkey (Macaca mulatta) and their response to visitors at Chittagong Zoo
Abstract
The study was conducted on the behaviour of rhesus monkey including ingestive, productive reproductive, communicative ,social, maternal care, animals, agonistic animals and respons to visitors behaviour. In captive condition at chittagong zoo. The monkey here kept within wire net house. Available feed supply to monkey were peanut, tomato, bread, bananas, vegetables. It was observe social dominance whThe averge weight of male& female ranges from 7.7kg (17.olb) & 5.34kg(11.8lb) respectively. It wsa observe Social dominance of monkey, where once have dominancy overall the group. There aggressiveness was remarkable. The parental care of monkeys beyond question. They make communication with others members of the group by making various sound and by gesture, posture. They like to live in a group and they are very much capricious about new things. It was observe the response of monkey to visitors.
When there are huge visitors they are excited and when less visitors they take rest or play. It was also observe the age of ere once maturity length of estrous cycle, gestation period, male(4years), female(3 years),28days, 164±5 days respectively. The feed that are supply are not formulated according to the nutrient requirement of rhesus monkey.
