The aim of this booklet is to give an overview of the Sponsored Research Activities in the form of Summaries* of the (ongoing and/or completed) studies. The aim of the study was to examine the effectiveness of climate finance projects in climate change adaptation in coastal districts of Bangladesh and suggest policy measures to improve the climate change adaptation environment in Bangladesh. Results of the study show that climate finance initiatives do lead to adaptations to climate change in the coastal districts of Bangladesh.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between consumers' purchase intention and real estate investment ability. Despite delays in completing the study due to the COVID-19 pandemic and various other restrictions, the preparation of the final report is nearing completion. The Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector is one of the industries driving Bangladesh's economy towards growth.
The first chapter focuses on the general background of this study which includes the meaning, scope and purpose of the study. The entire 2018 updated agreement is included in the appendix at the end of the report.
Name of the Project and
This paper empirically evaluates the consequences of climate change-induced effects on the overall and sectoral economic performance of Bangladesh. Per capita carbon emissions of the country are still quite low compared to the highly industrialized countries, such as the United States. Within the perspective of different Mega Development Projects currently being implemented in Bangladesh, the proposed study aims to identify and discuss professional and technical skills currently deployed in Mega Development Projects with a view to different implications for growth and development. to describe the country's human resources that move. forward.
The ultimate aim of the study is to come up with policy recommendations to use similar project experiences to improve the stock of professional and technical skills in the country. Some of the questions to be answered at the core of the proposed exercise include: What are the various professional and technical skills deployed by various mega projects under implementation in Bangladesh. In addition to providing a complete overview of the existing literature relating to issues such as concepts and definitions Mega Development Projects, contributions to country's development, experiences of other countries, etc.
The core research team of the project involved principal investigator and one co-principal investigator and a project supervisor. Practical Implications: The result of the present paper will be beneficial for both academic institutions and MOOC providers.
SCHOOL OF
ENGINEERING, TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCES
The proposed research will also include investigations of the effects of different configurations of the plasmonic metal core and insulator nanoparticles in different configurations within (i.e. inside) and on top of the absorbing substrate. Due to the fact that both circuits operate at high frequency (HF), the power density of the converter increases. Research on the use of novel plasmonic metal nanoparticles to improve the optoelectronic performance of solar cells and related challenges in practical implementation.
The team has successfully completed the first phase and established collaboration with CRP (Center for Rehabilitation of the Crippled), one of the best affordable rehabilitation facilities in the world for the mass population. Movement artifacts were characterized at very low frequency, which overlapped with the Delta rhythm of the EEG. The primary goal of the project is to start a collaboration with CERN and gain access to this data.
As part of the research activity, a project was proposed to the ICT Division of the Government of Bangladesh. This lack of labeled data is one of the major obstacles to research in this area. Secondly, the data collected from the tool will be used to analyze the children's language learning behavior.
Different versions of the tool will be used to design and conduct experiments on children's learning behavior and data on these experiments. In this project we aim to focus on the first phase of the integrated omics approach. By analyzing large data from the international telescopes LOFAR and SKA to improve our understanding of history and.
The reliability and life cycle cost analysis were carried out to verify the effectiveness of the charging system. The dual polarization of light is taken into account to gain a thorough understanding of the differences. The new technology's non-invasive method of testing different levels of blood components, such as glucose, hemoglobin, creatinine and others, is efficient, cost-effective and easy to use.
Several studies highlighted the recovery of these small businesses; but the rate of recovery turns out to be slow and the magnitude of the recovery varied between different sectors. Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world due to climate change and its associated negative effects on the economy, environment, national development and people. However, not much research has been conducted on the experiences of local people living in the surrounding areas of the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazaar and how they are adapting to the Rohingya influx (Kyaw, 2017).
On the other hand, in many studies, the Rohingya influx is considered a contributing factor to the improvement of the economic mobility of the local people.
ENVIRONMENT AND LIFE SCIENCES
Indigenous communities in the Chattogram Hill Tracts region in particular bear substantially the brunt of the adverse impact as they are highly dependent on nature to support their livelihoods. This research used a mixed-method approach and conducted 150 household interviews and six focus group discussions in Ruma and Thanchi Upazila of Bandarban District. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, half of the planned field work could not be carried out.
Thus, antimicrobial resistance is becoming one of the greatest public health challenges of our time worldwide, including Bangladesh. The therapeutic use of such bacteriophages has tremendous potential to be part of the multidimensional strategies to combat antibiotic resistance. The versatile nature of phage-based approaches should allow the application of the same or similar principles to control infections caused by diverse bacteria, by selecting the appropriate phage.
Revealing the spatial structure (distribution of employment and population) of the Greater Dhaka Region (GDR). The aim of the project is to assess the accumulation of macroplastic and microplastic litter on the sandy beaches of Cox's Bazar and its relation to commercial tourism. As part of the laboratory analysis, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a PDA (Photo Diode Array) detector was used.
Moreover, as the sample size of the current study was small, it does not demonstrate the real scenario of pesticide occurrence in Bangladesh. A cemetery-based approach could thus cover almost a third of the country's population (nearly 50 million in 328 municipalities) for CoD registration at the municipal level. This pilot study aimed to: (i) determine the prevalence of causes of death among the adult population in a community setting and (ii) investigate the feasibility of death reporting in cemeteries and registration of causes of death.
Bangladesh claims approximately 4% of the total groundwater available globally, which meets 98% of the country's total water demand (Islam et al., 2020). Cox's Bazar, located in the southeast of the coastal area, is especially under pressure. Soil salinity is one of the most important abiotic stressors for our staple food crop, rice.
PHARMACY AND PUBLIC HEALTH
Four filling stations namely Community Library, Community Fridge, Miscellaneous Station and Stationery Hub were inaugurated at different locations on the IUB campus for both collection and distribution purposes. The big challenges were to introduce the IUB community to the concepts of sustainable consumption and zero-waste lifestyle, as well as to participate actively in freecycling. Despite the nationwide shutdown and public holidays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, around 350 books, stationery, food items and sundries were shared in the IUB community.
This project aims to identify and evaluate the antidiabetic and insulinotropic effects of compounds isolated from the plant Spirulina platensis. Currently, several antidiabetic drugs are available on the market, but the management of abnormal glycemic conditions is still quite difficult due to the ineffectiveness of these drugs to accurately control β-cell function. Preliminary investigation of Spirulina platensis extract has revealed anti-diabetic properties such as increased insulin release, improved glucose tolerance, suppressed DPP-IV enzyme activity, decreased postprandial hyperglycemia, decreased glucose absorption and increased gastrointestinal motility.
We will perform in vitro (using cell line: BRIN BD11 and 1.1B4 cells) and in vivo (diabetic animal models) studies to evaluate their insulinotropic effects and glucose-lowering actions. This investigation will provide a strong scientific basis for the clinical development of some of these phytoconstituents as potential therapeutic agents of type 2 diabetes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that more than 4.1% of the total population of Bangladesh suffers from depression.
Using a standardized and validated screening tool is one of the time-tested methods for identifying people with depression. Due to its non-invasiveness and cost-benefit ratio, EEG has been the most popular brain recording method in clinical studies, laboratory experiments, patient health monitoring, diagnosis and many other applications. This study will be useful for the research community to compare the effectiveness of EEG signals with standard questionnaires for detecting depression among young adults.
