The low-calorie content of eggs benefits populations worldwide at all stages of the human life cycle. So, layer farming is very important to meet the demand for eggs and to improve the socio-economic condition of farmers (Ottinger et al., 2009). So this study is undertaken to evaluate the existing management system of poultry farming and understand the overall management practices and socio-economic condition of broilers and layer farmers.

The primary data was collected on the production performance, activities and economic conditions of the chicken producers using structured questionnaires and the secondary data was obtained from District Veterinary Hospital, Kishoreganj. Therefore, researchers are often forced to draw conclusions based on information obtained from a representative sample of the population. All poultry farms in the district engaged in poultry production were classified as population of the study.

It was estimated that 8.5% of poultry farmers had undergone training at some point in their farming lives (BBS, 2011). The current research shows that agriculture is the main occupation of 55% of the farmers involved in the study and that it is a secondary occupation for the remaining 45% of the farmers. Ahmed et al., (2009) showed that farming is the main occupation of the 35% of broiler farmers.

This higher value in my finding is due to the inclusion of layer farmers in my study, but Ahmed et al., (2009) did not consider layer farmers.

Ahmed et al., (2009) have shown that farmers use a higher percentage of semi-sanitary latrines.

Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR)

The cost-benefit ratio value in my study is almost similar to the findings of Alam (1997), he found a 1:1.22 cost-benefit ratio for intensive farms. Figure 3.3 shows that the benefit-cost ratio (per bird) is higher for layers than for broilers.

Floor management

In the present study it was found that in 100% of cases broilers are raised on the floor and 35% of the layer farm raise their broiler on the floor (Table 3.8 and 3.9). Feed intake, body weight gain and FCR of chickens in that study were not affected by rearing system.

Feeding

Water management

Regarding waste management, it was found that 15% of broilers and 25% of layer farmers dispose of waste material (waste and waste) to open air, 20% of broilers and 25% of layer farmers dispose to a pit, 25% of waste management. broilers and 15% of layer farmers use the waste in biogas plants, 5% of broilers and 10% of layer farmers sell it to the local market, 10% of both broilers and layer farmers use it as fish feed and 25% of broilers. broilers and 15% of layer farmers use for crop production (tables 3.8 and 3.9). Similar study was done by Sarker et al., (2009), they showed that 20% of small farmers could not use their poultry litter for any particular work.

Recommendations

Farmers should establish the biosecurity steps, setting the standard for each of the steps, meticulously maintaining these steps, regular correction and standardization of the biosecurity steps. There is a wide scope for the development of poultry farming throughout the country because the poor rural people have enough time for raising poultry. As most people irrespective of caste and religion prefer chicken and eggs, its demand and price is increasing day by day.

In context of the present study, we can say that with the help of hygienic management system overall socio-economic improvements are achieved easily and quite quickly. The completion of any work or responsibility gives good feelings, but the completion of this work as partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in (CVASU), has not only given me the pleasure, but has also given me the confidence to to move forward and showed me a new opening to knowledge. As I stand at this opening, it is an honor to recall the names of the person and organization to whom I am grateful.
