In Bangladesh, linguistics was first introduced as part of the academic program of the Bangla Department, Dhaka University (DU). Linguistics is also included in the academic curriculum of various departments of both public and private universities in Bangladesh. Students must take two non-credit compulsory courses (Ling 0001: Introduction to Statistics and Ling 0006: A Modern Language) and at least one non-credit elective course from the list of courses offered by the Department's Academic Committee.

A grade of I indicates a situation where a student is unable to complete the full course requirements to be unable to sit for the final semester exam. The academic committee of the department retains the authority to recommend the name of the chairman of the relevant examination committee. Other members will be appointed according to the regulations of the Faculty of Arts.

Final semester scripts are assessed by two examiners (first and second examiners), appointed by the Department's Academic Committee. Any modification or renewal of this curriculum, if necessary, must be initiated by the Department's Academic Committee.
