Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam has been working as a Professor in Agricultural Extension Education at Graduate Training Institute (GTI) of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh over the last 26 years.
During this time, he conducted huge number of training programs which includes preparation of training curriculum, module development, preparation of audio visual aids, class management, evaluation and report preparation. Apart from these activities he also conducted training session on various subject matters in different public universities of the country. Moreover, he accomplished a number of consultancy services in diverse areas sponsored by local and international funding authorities. In addition, he also gained substantial experience in handling personnel management issues while acting as ‘Registrar’ at Khulna University.
A few years back, he worked as ‘Training Management Specialist’ for the Second Crop Diversification Project (SCDP) funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) implemented by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) under the Ministry of Agriculture. The major responsibilities were: preparation of training module on production technology of high value crops, training schedule and budget preparation, production of leaflet, brochure and posters for mass communication, capitalization and awareness purpose, video documentary on operation and management of fruits and vegetables collection centre, preparation of training master plan, through which Dr. Islam gained substantial knowledge and expertise on ‘Training Management’. From that experience Dr. Islam is fully capable of handling duties and responsibilities as assigned against the proposed position as ‘National Operation Specialist’ for any discipline. a. Doctor of Philosophy in the field of Agricultural Extension Education – (BAU). The title of my dissertation was ‘GO-NGO Collaboration for Sustainable Livelihoods of Garo Women in Bangladesh’ in 2005
b. Master’s degree in Development Training and Education – (University of Wolverhampton, UK).
The Title of dissertation was ‘Development of a Training Curriculum on Integrated Pest Management in Rice for the Front Level Extension Workers in Bangladesh’. The degree was completed during September 1994.
c. Master’s degree in Agricultural Extension Education – (Bangladesh Agricultural University). The title of thesis was ‘Extension-BRDB Linkage in Irrigation Management Program and Non Irrigation Management Program Krishak Samabaya Samity of Muktagacha. I stood First Class Second position in combined merit list. The degree was completed during December 1988 d. Completed Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Hons) from Faculty of Agriculture – (Bangladesh
Agricultural University). I secured first class in the final examination. The Degree was completed during April 1984.

3. Consultancy experience:
a) I joined the Second Crop Diversification Project (SCDP) under the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Ministry of Agriculture, funded by Asian Development Bank as “TRAINING MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST” where I worked from September, 2012 to December 2016. The main responsibilities were to design and implement various training programs for DAE officer, staffs and farmers who are ultimate beneficiaries of the project. In addition, training curriculum, training module, training manuals, training materials including PowerPoint slides, video documentation, leaflets, posters, folders etc. were also prepared. To prepare training completion report was also another important task. Preparation of training master plan, annual plan, quarterly plan was also part of my duties and responsibilities.
b) I have been working as ‘Team Leader’ of a study entitled, “Impact of M4C interventions on the livelihoods of char dwellers’ right now. The study is being funded by Swiss Government and being implemented by Rural Development Academy, Bogra. The main responsibilities are to develop research proposal, prepare data collection instrument, prepare study guideline for the fellow team members and data enumerator, conduct focus group discussion, data analysis and report writing and also report presentation in the seminar, workshop etc.
c) Worked as a ‘Training, Extension and Technology Transfer Specialist’ of a study entitled, “Market and supply chain analysis of major food commodities in areas affected by the Rohingya Refugee crisis in Bangladesh” during October, 2017 to May, 2018 funded by FAO. The main thrust of the study was to analyze the market systems and supply chains of major food items in Cox`s Bazar district and to determine challenges for Rohingya refugees in the purchase of fresh food items and cooking fuel through market assessment. My job was to Lead technology transfer, training &
extension components, assist team leader to accomplish activities, developing & finalizing questionnaire & checklists, conduction of FGDs, KIIs & observation, assist team leader in organizing
expert consultation, assist team leader in organizing sensitization workshop, preparation &
finalization of reports.
d) Worked as Deputy Team Leader (Technology Transfer Specialist) of the Consultancy Team for the Intelligent Decision Support System Project with ACI limited for the period from April 2017 to April 2018. I engaged in preparing a mobile app on 'production technology of different crops as well as crop protection aspects'. Through using the app farmers will be able to recognize the specific dates and operations needed against each crops for better production and protection of field crops as well as horticultural crops.
e) I also worked as ‘Training Specialist’ with USAID for producing teaching materials on 11 crops. My job responsibilities were to develop training manual, training materials including leaflet, flip chart, power Point slides and training schedule. The duration of work was March to December 2015.
f) I also worked as Consultant for producing curriculum for the students of Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Courses in Rural Development Academy, Bogra. The curriculum was finalized through feedback from the learned participants of two important workshop where people came from various Government, autonomous and Non-government organizations. Finally I prepared ‘A Handbook of Agronomy’ and ‘A Handbook of Horticulture’ for them.
g) Worked as ‘Lead Consultant’ for a study on ‘Mid-term Evaluation of Char Livelihoods Project’ in Rural Development Academy, Bogra during January to December 2012. I engaged with research work as 'Team Leader'. The study entails the impact assessment of Asset Transfer on the Livelihoods of Char Dwellers'. The job responsibilities was to prepare research project proposal, prepare questionnaire for data collection through interviews, conduct FGD and KII, Data compilation, data analysis and report preparation. All these activities were performed by me, although there are other activities like visiting char dwellers, conduct FGD and KII also done by other members of the team.
h) I worked as ‘Training Specialist’ for project entitled “Replication of RDA-Developed WISE Model in Partnership with Local NGO” in Rural Development Academy, Bogra during March 2011 to August 2012. The job responsibilities were to develop training curriculum for the project beneficiaries, develop training module for them, conduct training for project beneficiaries, make assessment of effectiveness of training and reporting.

5. Administrative experience:
a) Worked as Director of Graduate Training Institute (GTI) which is located in the campus of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh is the only training institute in Bangladesh has been offering various training on agricultural and rural development to a wide range of GO and NGO personnel.
b) worked as a ‘Registrar’ of Khulna University since November, 2006 upto 31 December 2008. During this period I successfully conducted several meetings of Board of Advanced Studies, Academic Council, syndicate meetings, one senate meeting and one convocation and performed various other administrative functions as Registrar.
c) Worked as a Hostel Superintendent for a period of two years at Graduate Training Institute which entails a great deal of administrative as well as handling of financial matters.
d) Worked as secretary for “Bangladesh Welfare Association” in Birmingham, United Kingdom for a period of a year. The main responsibilities were to assist people for fill up the necessary forms, contact and make appointment with the Doctors, Hospitals, Social Security Department, Banks, Passport Office for extending visa and even contact Taxi Company and sometimes made contact with the Superstore for purchasing things.

I am involved myself in teaching and training of SPSS programme for the students of Bangladesh Agricultural University and sometimes for the Scientists of different Research organizations of Bangladesh. Apart from using SPSS, I am also capable to analyse the data through using MS-Excel, MSTAT-C. I have analysed data of more than 100 Masters’ theses and 10 PhD theses of Bangladesh Agricultural University.
