- Scope of the project
The expectation of consumers is increasing and manufacturers have to style, and smartly created in as many types as feasible (concept of economies of scale is not much talk) to meet the demand of consumers. Industrial engineering can be a profession in which data from mathematical and natural sciences obtained through study, expertise and application are used with judgment to develop ways to economically utilize the materials and alternative natural resources and focus of nature for the good thing about man. Industrial engineers confirm more effective ways in which an organization uses the fundamental factors of production – people, machines, materials, information and energy – to create or process a product or produce a service.
This may include results and assets, or more intangible objectives such as increasing productivity or motivation. Our project objectives should be achievable, time-bound, specific goals that we can measure at the end of our project. The RMG industry has so many opportunities to develop IP techniques and methods to increase productivity.
It's an interesting topic, so almost all industries are giving a dime to IE research to increase productivity. Author of RMG industry can know the actual demand of IE section to increase their production.

Industrial engineering that deals with improving the current system into a better one and maximizing the efficiency of the system and ensuring a better result. To overcome this problem, line balancing is performed at the scheduled destination in each line operation. The goals of line balancing are to reduce workloads on a line while meeting the required output.
Actually, this word forms the top part of the bottle, the neck, which can withstand everything from a large part to a narrow part of the neck. The SMV of the same operation or product may differ based on operating conditions and substance behavior. Appraisal is the process used by the industrial engineer to compare the operator's actual performance with his/her mental concept of normal performance.
Work-study is a systematic system through which experiments are carried out and helps to improve the way activities are carried out and the efficient use of resources. Work-Study plays an important role in improving the productivity level of the garment industry after entering the garment industry.
EXPERIMANTAL DETAILS
EXPERIMENTAL DETAILS
- Operation breakdown
- Why need Operation Breakdown
We were collecting this overview of the operation such as Polo T-shirt, Accelerator T-shirt, Women's Short Sleeve T-shirt, T-shirt, Polo T-shirt from Esquire Knit Composite Ltd & Opex and Sinha Textile . When a manufacturer starts making a garment, it is mandatory to put each part together step by step. Operation Breakdown means writing down the entire part, all operations according to the process sequence for the entire garment.
At the time we get a plan of the garments, we have no idea how many parts are in the garments. That is why we need to study the garments so that we can know how many parts in the garment and how many times it is required for the garment and the process sequence.
Operational Breakdown for Polo T-Shirt
And we observed this sheet carefully and completed the report following steps like SMV, Efficiency, production target, opening time, etc. MASCOT-2212, Unit 5 and Line 5, above the sheet we found 36 machines and 38 workers are used to make a polo shirt and also found what type of machine is used as no. This sheet shows that the individual SMV for individual operations and also showed that the individual and group machine capacity per hour and the line target is 1747 pieces where the line efficiency is 68%.
As we know SMV (standard minute value) is the time required for an ideal worker to work smoothly in an ideal environment.
Operational Breakdown for Accelerator T-Shirt
MASCOT-2219, unit 5 and line 6, at the top of the sheet we found 41 machines and 42 workers used to make a T-shirt, and we also found what kind of machine is used, e.g. no. This sheet shows that the individual SMV for the individual operations and also showed that the individual and group capacity of the machine per hour and the goal of the line is 950 pieces, where the efficiency of the line is 61%. The above sheet does not contain the rating and cycle time, so we take the rating and cycle time into account and calculate the SMV.
Operational Breakdown for Ladies Short Sleeve T-Shirt
Above ESQUIRE KNIT COMPOSITE Ltd Women's Short Sleeve T-Shirt Operation Breakdown Sheet. ESPRIT-758, unit 5 and line 1, above the sheet we found 28 machines and 30 workers used to make a women's T-shirt. Shirt and also found out what type of machine is being used eg. no. This sheet showed that the individual SMV for individual operations and also showed that the machine capacity in terms of individual and group capacity per hour and the line target is 1750 pieces where the line efficiency is 81%.
Operational Breakdown for T-Shirt
Above this sheet the name of the buyer represents LEVI'S and above the sheet we found 18 machines and 26 workers are used to make a T-shirt and also found what type of machine is used as No. This sheet showed that individual SMEs for individual operations and also shown, that machine wise. The above sheet does not include rating and cycle time, so let's consider the rating and cycle time and calculate SMEV.
Operational Breakdown for Polo -Shirt
Above this sheet the buyer name represents US Polo and above the sheet we found 20 machines and 29 workers. This sheet showed that individual SME for individual operations and also showed that machine-wise individual and group capacity per hour and the line target is 2300 pieces, where the line efficiency is 85%.

In this bar chart we showed the different SMV required for the various functions of a polo T-shirt. In the diagram above we have shown the group capacity per hour for various activities where the efficiency is 90%. Using this information, we create a bar chart showing higher capacity and lower capacity. Here we found 14 operations that together yield a percentage of a higher SMV, namely 48%, and 15 operations that together yield a percentage of a lower SMV of 52%.
In this bar chart, we have shown the different SMVs required for a variety of performance for a boost shirt. In the chart above we have shown the hourly capacity of the group for various operations where the efficiency is 85% and with the help of this information we make a bar chart where the higher and lower capacity is shown. Here we can see the maximum potential capacity for operations such as making measurements and markings for the neck rib, attaching a care label (two labels in two places), matching sleeve and body numbers, side seam and turning sleeves.
Here we found 17 operations that together yield a percentage of a higher SMV, namely 59%, and 12 operations that together yield a percentage of a lower SMV of 41%. In this bar chart we show the different SMV required for various operations for a women's short sleeve T-shirt. In the diagram above we have shown the group capacity per hour for various activities where the efficiency is 83%. Using this information, we create a bar chart showing the higher capacity and lower capacity.
Here we found 12 operations that together make a percentage of higher SMV that is 59% and 9 operations that together make a percentage of lower SMV 41%. In this bar graph, we have shown the different SMV required for various operations for a T-shirt. Here we can see the highest potential capacity for the operations is shoulder joint, Rib tuck, main label mark and the lowest potential capacity for these operations is Side seam, neck rib attached, bottom hemp.
Here we found 7 operations that together yield a percentage of a higher SMV, namely 37%, and 12 operations that together yield a percentage of a lower SMV of 63%. Here we can see the highest potential capacity for the operations: sleeve match, button placket, top seam of button placket and the lowest potential capacity for these operations are side seam, moon mark and collar joint. Here we found 11 operations that together yield a percentage of a higher SMV, namely 44%, and 12 operations that together yield a percentage of a lower SMV of 56%.
CONCLUSION
This project helps us to understand the composition, SMV, time and motion study linked formula and additionally their corrected methodology. We also realize that this project helps us to gain knowledge about IP of a clothing industry. This project report gives us the opportunity to expand our knowledge about textile sector such as production, procurement system planning, production process and machinery and teach us to adapt to the textile industry.
