Brac University (BracU) Job Description

1 Job Title: Manager, Alumni Relations

Purpose

To manage and coordinate all aspects of alumni relations activities across the university, working with schools and departments. The person will be responsible for devising and implementing the University’s plan to develop excellent relationships between the university and its alumni. The plan will act as a foundation to optimize alumni engagement and complement industry-academia collaboration.

the manager: Officer, Alumni Relations

Grade: 6

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Must return to duty whenever needed (including some weekends)

Functional R e l a t i o n s h i p s :

Internal Contacts: Students, Faculty, and Administrative Staff of BRAC University External Contacts: Alumni, external organizations, employers

1.1 Key Accountabilities

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

1.1.1 To be responsible for developing and implementing the university’s Alumni Relations plan including, for example, communications and publicity, employer links, alumni benefits and services, events and activities, and alumni associations within Bangladesh and internationally.

1.1.2 To promote effective communications and coordination across the university on matters relating to alumni relations activities.

1.1.3 To organize alumni events and meetings, including fundraising opportunities for the alumni

1.1.4 To be responsible for the annual alumni newsletter and maintain web-based alumni resources

1.1.5 To lead surveys on graduate/alumni destinations.

1.1.6 To ensure the establishment and maintenance of an effective alumni database 1.1.7 To recruit and supervise staff and volunteers who may, from time to time, be assigned

to support alumni relations.

1.1.8 To prepare the Alumni Relations budget.

1.2 General Duties & Responsibilities

1.2.1 Administrative Duties relating to all matters that the membership of a university entails, including cross-institution-wide activities.

1.2.2 General Responsibility to undertake all other duties as directed by the line manager.

Abide by all policies and procedures set out in the Employee Handbook.

2 1.3 Qualifications

• A postgraduate degree with good academic credentials from any reputed institution.

• Minimum five to six years of work experience in alumni relations, youth engagement, university or academic administration, fundraising, public relations and communications or similar roles

1.4 Knowledge & Skills & Aptitudes

1.4.1 Demonstrable ability to devise and implement a data-oriented alumni relations plan.

1.4.2 Good IT skills, including knowledge of using database management systems to update the alumni database.

1.4.3 Strong organizational skills to plan and deliver high-quality events involving multiple stakeholders.

1.4.4 Excellent presentation skills, along with the ability to facilitate workshops, engaging the audience effectively.

1.4.5 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with a wide range of people.

1.4.6 Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written languages - English and Bangla.

1.4.7 Capacity to produce communication and promotional materials using graphic design software.

1.4.8 Experience with survey assessment tools such as SurveyMonkey, or Google Forms;

statistical analysis skills would be desirable.

1.4.9 Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as, collaboratively.

1.4.10 A strong work ethic and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and follow through in a timely manner.

1.4.11 Willingness to travel and take part in student activities.

1.4.12 Willingness to work some extended hours, including weekends and evenings, when required.

1.2 Other Duties

It is acknowledged and agreed that the changing needs of the University may require a role/job/position to change from time to time but such alteration shall not be deemed to be a variation of the Employment Contract/Terms and Conditions of Employment or a breach of the same provided that the substantial nature of the employment remains consistent with the parties’

intentions at the time of the offer of the job and acceptance of the offer.
