“Energy Transition and SGCC's Practice”

Dr. Yu Jun

State Grid Corporation of China

Abstract: At present, promoting energy system towards the clean and low-carbon future has become an international trend. The energy system transition is a long and systematic process, relying on the large scale development of renewable energy as the core measure, the wide and deep re-electrification process as the fundamental approach, and the interconnected, smart and efficient modern grid as the basic platform.

In order to facilitate energy transition, State Grid Corporation of China, as the largest utility in the world, will actively promote the construction of Energy Internet, including strong & smart grid as well as the ubiquitous electrified IoT.

Biography: Jun Yu received his dual BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Economics and MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1991 and 1994 respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2000 and then worked at ERCOT for seven years. From 2006 to 2011, he became the deputy director general of National Power Dispatching and Communication Center under State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). From 2011 to 2014, he was the senior vice president of State Grid International Development Limited of SGCC. Currently, he is the co-head of the department of international cooperation of SGCC, responsible for the oversea assets operation and M&A, as well as international organization business. He has been the IEEE Senior member since 2003, served as IEEE SA CAG member since 2015, and as IEEE PES governing board member at large since 2019.

“The Evolution of Control Centers for the Electric Power Grid”

Professor Anjan Bose Washington State University, USA

Abstract: Soon after Edison started supplying electricity to customers and Steinmetz gave us the ability to analyze large AC circuits, the power companies started interconnecting for economic and reliability benefits, resulting in today's continent-wide power grids. What made it possible to plan and operate these grids, the largest man-made machines ever developed, is the utilization of computer, communication and control technologies, which resulted in the smart grid whose evolution continues.

Biography: Anjan Bose is a Regents Professor and the Distinguished Professor of Electric Power Engineering at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where he also served as the Dean of the College of Engineering &

Architecture from 1998 to 2005. He served the US Department of Energy as a Senior Advisor on the electric power grid in the Obama administration. He is a leading researcher on the operation and control of the electric power grid. He has worked in the electric power industry as well as academe for over 40 years. He
