Read the following text and answer questions 1 and 2.

There is a small village called Bhabnipur in Jhenaidah. It is a typical Bangladeshi village. People here spend their day to day life mostly working in the fields and doing small jobs. In this ordinary village, there lives an extra-ordinary woman named Shamima Akhter Maya. Shamima’s willpower and determination have made her extra-ordinary. She has come out as a winner, defying all the odds of life. Shamima is now 32 years old. She runs a small boutique called

‘Oikkya Nari Kollayan Shangstha’ in her village. Let’s hear from Shamima, how she succeeded in setting up her boutique.

Shamima started to tell us her story. Listening to her, we were stunned and at the same time our hearts were filled with admiration for her.

It was 1995, Shamima was 15 years old. She got promoted to class 8. Shamima had all the dreams of an adolescent. She wanted to bring about a change in her life. She wanted to see happiness in her family too. She knew she could fulfil her dream by completing her education and getting a good job.

Fifteen-year old Shamima’s dreams were nipped in the bud. Her family wanted to marry her off against her will. Marrying off a girl under18 is against the law in Bangladesh. Shamima did not want to get married. But nobody paid any heed to her. All her tears and protests went in vain.

Shamima was married off to Kamal Uddin Joardar.

Read the following text and answer questions 4 and 5.

Captain Mahiuddin Jahangir was an officer in the Bangladesh Army during Liberation War in 1971. He was born on 7 March 1949 at Rahimganj village under Babuganj Upazilla in Barishal district. He finished his HSC from the Barishal B.M. College. In 1967 he took admission in the Department of Statistics at the University of Dhaka. On 5 October 1967 he joined the army forces as a cadet at the Pakistan Military Academy. He obtained commissioned rank in the corps in 1968. He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 August in 1970. He was an officer in sector 7 of the Mukti Bahini. He was given the responsibility to fight at Chapainawabganj border at Rajshahi district. On 14 December, he was killed in an attempt to breakthrough enemy defenses on the bank of the Mohananda River. He was buried near Sona Masjid premises. In recognition of his valour and sacrifice in the war of Liberation, Mohiuddin Jahangir was awarded with the highest state honour of Birshrestha.
