Impact of COVID-19 on the recession of large scale dairy farms of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazilla. This survey was conducted to estimate the economic loss of the farmers of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazilla during the lockdown and to analyze the probable causes for the loss. 14 farms within the said area were randomly selected with more than 10 dairy cattle for the survey among 86 registered farms in the area.

The study shows the changes in recurrent cost for concentrated feed, raw feed source, medication and labour, which may or may not be affected by the pandemic situation. This study also presents the causes of poor marketing of local farms and the causes of unsold milk, the need for the production of versatile milk products and properly trained personnel on farms for this.

Introduction

A thorough scientific study is needed at the elementary level to address the difficulty of assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to evaluate how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect dairy farmers' results. Milk and meat from the livestock sector in particular keep the protein demand of the growing population in check.

Because dairy farming has been recognized as one of the activities aimed at reducing poverty and unemployment, it is well known to improve the sustainable livelihood of farmers even in drought-prone areas. Since most large-scale dairy farms market their milk in bulk, a lack of market can affect the economics of farms more suddenly than small ones. Being one of the main tourist areas not only for Bangladesh but for the whole world, the blockade greatly affected the city's economy.

The purpose of this study is to review the financial losses of large dairy farmers in a particular area of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazilla. To assess the economic impact of COVID-19 on large farms in Cox's Bazar, Sadar Upazilla.

Materials and Methods

Personal information about farm owners or farmers was collected by interviewing or asking the owners or farmers directly. Other information about cattle population, production, cost of management, milk market price, effect of COVID on farms. The data collected was then organized and coded to be entered into MS Excel for further analysis.

This section first reports our assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dairy farms in Cox's Bazar Sadar, then discusses how the pandemic has affected dairy farm economics. Just like any agricultural sector in our country the dairy sector of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazilla had to suffer, gained fortune with the sudden halt to the growth of the economy caused by COVID. Most of the selected farms depended on the wholesale market to sell their produce.

Due to the pandemic situation, there was even 50% unsold milk in 7.14% of the farms during the lockdown situation and less than 10% unsold milk remained in 28.57% of the farms (table 7). 64.29% of the farmers mentioned unfair prices, 35.71% of the farmers mentioned limitation of transportation area, 50% of the farmer mentioned lack of customers and one hundred percent of them have closed shop and restaurants as the reason. called for the remaining unsold milk on the farm. (table 9). Farmers indicated that the reason for reduced customers could be poor financial condition of the previous customer, prejudices against SARS-CoV-2.

35.71% of the farmer produced yogurt to emulsify the loss of unsold milk by using it and the remaining 64.29% of the farmer distributed or threw it among neighbors (table 10). The farmers hinted that the reason for this gradual decline in the number of livestock has come from the great loss during the pandemic situation. There has been an increase in the price of feed concentrate, but farmers have not declared it as the cause of the decrease in livestock.

Thus, fodder was available throughout the year, although there were problems with the availability of straw, as the local straw market is at Chakariya, outside the upazila. Changes in drug costs were related to changes in the number of livestock, availability of drugs and veterinarians. The availability of concentrated fodder decreased by 40-50 percent, and at the same time, its prices rose in the same proportion.
