Welcome Message from the Librarian.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Stamford University Library Website. The library website aims to provide a brief introduction to the facilities and services provided by the library, library operating hours and other basic information pertaining to the library.

Alhamdulillah, we shall provide services and access to information for our Students, The Faculty Members, University Staff, Alumni and the community.

In today’s world there is an increasing need for timely information. People now need timely, accurate and advanced information for making decisions. Therefore, a lot of material is accessible in the internet but there are many factors hinder us from getting the greatest information.

Stamford University library offers a variety of facilities and services online. Thus, effective use of the library website would indeed benefit the users.

As Librarian of SUB Library, I am pleased that you are visiting our Web site today, and I invite you revisit to it often. I do hope that everybody would make full use of facilities and services offered.

Collection

Overview

Collection overview

Stamford University Library has vast collections to fulfill the requirements of its users. The

Library provides a variety of services designed to support students, faculty members,

researchers, and staff members of Stamford University. The Stamford Library develops and

maintains extensive print and e-resources to support the research, teaching and learning

activities of the University. The core collections include subjects in Business, Management,

Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Banking Mathematics, Economics, English, computer Science,

Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Pharmacy, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Mass

communication, Public Administration, Law, History, Architecture, Biological and life sciences,

Bangladesh studies, Bangla Literature, Liberation War etc.

The Library has extensive holdings including print collections (collections are mostly open access), e-resources collection include e-journals, e-books, and theses, student projects, research reports, etc. in full text. The information sources are easily accessible, relevant, reliable and of high quality.

Library Committee

Library Sections Acquisition Section:

Acquisitions Section is the heart of any modern Library. This Section is responsible for the acquisition of all books, journal and magazines, government documents and gifts for the Stamford Libraries. Acquisitions Section supports the Libraries' staff in their efforts to acquire and maintain information resources for education and research. There are generally five steps taken in order to acquire material for a library collection whether physical or digital.

1. Request processing 2. Verification

4. Reporting (fiscal management) 5. Receiving orders

Circulation Section:

The main function of Circulation Section is to disseminate library books among the users according to Library policy.

The following facilities in Circulation Section are available:

1.

Issuance of text books.

2.

Issuance and renewal of library membership.

3.

Search corner for online journals and library database.

4.

Text materials

Reference Section:

Reference services are usually refers to the users to particular pieces of information rather than read page to page. Readers often have to consult books and materials, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, Yearbooks, and the like for data or information. Normally, a reader would not need to move such books from the Reading Room. Consequently, these books are never issued to anyone, but are used in the Library premises and for Photocopy.

More than 5000 local and foreign journals, magazines, yearbooks, annual report, bulletin etc and

18 national newspapers are displayed in this section. Besides remarkable number of

contributory journals and magazines are available in this section. Information materials of this

section cannot be borrowed. User may read and request the library personnel for photocopy of their required materials.

The following facilities are available in the library.

Membership Criteria

 Every member of the University is a potential member of the library and uses it for borrowing and reference after registration.

There are five categories of library memberships.

1. Board Member (Trustee Board) 2. Faculty

3. Executive 4. Student

 Any Registered member of the University who wishes to be a member of the library, has to submit one stamp size & one passport size color photographs along with a filled up prescribed form and library card to the office of the Library. Showing admission money receipt to library office is a precondition to get the prescribed library form and library card, which is applicable only for student. After two working days Library card will be provided from the office of the Library.

Entrance Rules

Borrowing Rules Lending Procedures for BOT

Member of Board Trustee will be able to borrow 2 (Two) books for 10 days.

Lending Procedures for Faculty

i) A Full time Faculty Member will be entitled to borrow 05(five) different books at a time. She/he can issue a text book for a full trimester and reference book for ten days only. It may be renewed time to time.

ii) A part time faculty member will be entitled to borrow at best 3 different books for one month. On the expiry date she /he must return / renew the book.

iii) If the faculty member fails to return / renew any book within due date, the Librarian may issue him/her a reminder letter

Lending Procedures for Administrative Staffs

Administrative Staffs can also borrow two books for ten days.

Lending Procedures for student

i) A student can borrow book(s) against deposit his/her borrower’s card only.

ii) The students are allowed to issue 02 (two) different books at a time for 10 days only. In this regard, there is no provision of re-issuing of the same book on the same day. The borrower may borrow that book on any following day. While issuing a book it is mandatory for every student to fill up and sign in the respective columns of book card.

iii) The students are allowed to issue one CD / DVD for two days. In this regards, there is no provision of re-issuing of the same CD/DVD on the same day

iv) Book / CD / DVD will be issued on a first-come-first serve basis.

Fine Rules Provision of Penalty/ Fine

i) Students must return books on due date even if there is no class held. If student fails to return book(s) within the due date she/he has to pay fine of TK. 10 per book per day basis.

ii) In case of loss of book a student has to inform the concerned desk immediately and must replace the book by a new one or pay three times of the present market price of the book along with delay fine. The same rule will be materialized in the case of losing CD/DVD iii) Students shall be held responsible for making any damage, page cutting or marking in the book, In such case he / she will have to

replace the new copy or pay three times of the present market price of the book along with delay fine.

iv) In case of loss of the library card a student has to pay Tk. 50.00 only.

v) Students must return CD/DVD on due date even if there is no class held. If student fails to return CD/DVD within the due date she/he has to pay fine 10 taka per CD/DVD per day basis.

vi)If any student loses his / her token (bag counter), he/she must pay Tk. 100 only as fine.

vii) If a Library book is found with a student outside the Library without being issued, the student will be treated as miscreant .In such malpractice the following any penalty will be imposed to the concerned student:

▪ Library membership for one/trimester will be held up/

▪ Tk. 5000 to be realized as fine/

▪ Examination for one trimester will be held up/

▪ Result will remain withheld until fine amount is realized

Viii). The Library authority reserves right to hold up or expulsion of membership in case of violating library rules or misconduct in library premises.
