1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Backround of the Study

The human need to comunicate with each other. In human life communication is often confronted with each other in a container both formal and informal. Formal communication style using language that is more structured, less sociable, personality becomes more regular, and rarely use inappropriate jokes and emotions more manageable. Casual communication style is more relaxed and use everyday language structure is more slang. This communication style is more likely to play around and make jokes and emotions more freely to be expressed.

Billionger (1975:14) says, “Language is a system of vocal auditory communication, interacting with the experience of it’s user, employing conventional signs composed of arbitrary patterned sound units and assambled according to set rules.” Or in the other words means that language is a system of comunication tools in vocal auditory using convencial signs and symbols that has been assambled.

(14)

In communication we often use language style to represent the feelings to make it more interesting for the listener. Knowing language style, is expected to facilitate the communication process and can minimize this. Human cannot do anything without language.

Without language, human cannnot understand what the purpose and direction each other people. William A. Haviland says, Language is a sound system that, when combined according to certain rules pose a meaning that can

be captured by all the people who speak it. It means if people understand the

language used in a conversation that will allow the other person to understand the intent and purpose of the speaker In the talk, the speaker and the listener are equally aware that there are rules that govern its actions, the use of language, and interpretation of the actions and speech of his interlocutor.

Palmer (1976) says that semantics is the study of meaning in language. Therefore if someone wants to discuss the figurative expression, it means that she or he can not be escaped from the semantics, because it is impossible for someone to talk about figurative expression without knowing semantics. So, figurative expression always relates to semantics.

(15)

Talking about various, examples of such figures of speech, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, Allegory and others that are important for us. An interesting style and certainly will make every reader to be more interested.

The use of figure of speech in a poem or story becomes absolutely necessary if we want the writing to be interesting or not. Therefore, a good ability in speaking absolutely necessary for those who want to wrestle the world of writing, be it a novel, a poem, or literary. So develop a diverse range of language settings in your thoughts and your writing in a book every day, so that your brain is getting trained and increasingly high imaginative figurative language to create an attractive style. Some kind style of language Broadly speaking, figuratively can be divided into four classes or groups. And the four kinds of tropes, each of which has a derivative and a type of category.

Here is a figure of speech and Their Various kinds example: 1) Simile

Disclosure explicitly stated by comparison with prepositions and liaison, such as, "for instance".

For example : Do you think that I like the water, such as Aan and Annie fell in love sacrifice everything.

2) Metaphor

(16)

3) Hyperbole

Hyperbole is a figure of speech figure in the form of overstatement facts with the aim of giving the impression of depth or ask for attention

For example : His voice boomed splitting the sky. 4) Personification

Personification is a figure of speech in which a thing, an idea or an animal is given human attributes. The non-human objects are portrayed in such a way that we feel they have the ability to act like human beings.

For example : My heart will go on.

Figurative language and many other styles such language there are allegorical, symbolic, metonym, synecdoche, antithesis, paradox, litotes, parallelism, climax, s tautology, irony, cynicism.

In this paper, the writer tries to analyze the metaphor as an object because the writer thought the metaphor is very easy to learn and in the analysis. Metaphor is one part of figurative language which is the most common and widely used. Metaphore is a figure of speech that identifies something as being the same as some unrelated thing for rhetorical effect, thus highlighting the similarities between the two. While a simile compares two items, a metaphor may compare or directly equate them, and so does not necessarily apply any distancing words of comparison, such as "like" or "as".

(17)

derived from the 16th-century old french word “Meta” which mean over and “Porcini” which mean to carry, metaphore simply means to carry from one place to another.

Writer will analyze the lyrics of the songs, because in the lyrics songs we often find metaphore. Writter try to write metaphore in taylor swift’s songs. Taylor swift is in the know often use or express her feelings in her songs. And many people loves her songs especially teenegers. Taylor Alison Swift is the top singer she was born December 13, 1989. She is the song writer and the pop singer.

1.2 The Problem of Study

After listen the Taylor Swift songs and reading the lyric, writer found many metaphore in that song lyrics. Whereas many people who do not understand the metaphor becomes not understand what the intent and purpose of the song, and for some people who understand the metaphore the songs be beautiful and attractive for the hearing. The writer here tries to analyze metaphore of Taylor Swift's song lyrics. The first is to find out the types of metaphor in Taylor Swift’s song lyrics. and the second, the writer tries to analyze the meaning of each metaphore found in Taylor Swift's song lyrics.

1.3 The Purpose of Study

metaphor. Readers can understand the meaning of Taylor Swift’s song lyrics which use metaphor.

1.4 The Scope of the Study

The scope needed for an activity report on studies that have been conducted. This paper not only paper but there is science in this paper writer tries to analyze meanings of metaphor found in song lyrics and analyze metaphors in type of Hyperbole, Simile, and Personification of Taylor Swift's song lyrics. 1.5 The Method of Study

The writer took some data from resources Taylor Swift’s lyrics, some books in the library and the internet. That research can support to analyze the metaphor. In this paper, library very helpful for writer to write this paper. The writer reading and collecting some data and making some notes until making the conclusion of the metaphor. Some books in the library helps to collect the data from this paper. Writer searches internet to gather some information about metaphors. Some of the books outside the library also helps provide information about the types of metaphors. The writer reading and collecting some data and making some notes until making the conclusion of the metaphor.

2. THE REVEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

2.1 Metaphor

Metaphors are one of the most extensively used literary devices. A metaphor refers to a meaning or identity ascribed to one subject by way of another. In a metaphor, one subject is implied to be another so as to draw a comparison between their similarities and shared traits. The first subject, which is the focus of the sentences is usually compared to the second subject, which is used to convey a degree of meaning that is used to characterize the first. The purpose of using a metaphor is to take an identity or concept that we understand clearly (second subject) and use it to better understand the lesser known element (the first subject).

Muller and Winear ( 1982 : 36 ) metaphor is a type of figurative in which term from one catagory is compared briefly and imaginatively with another term while matthews (1997 : 224) defined metaphor as figure of speech in which a word or expression normally used of one kind of object, action, etc, is extended to another.

(21)

Metaphor mentioned by Pradopo (1994: 66) is a form of direct comparison of two things, but in the form of a short. Style metaphor was seeing something through another object. Metaphor as a direct comparison does not use words like and others, so that the first subject directly connected with the principal. one of the elements being compared, ie the image, has a number of components of meaning and usually only one of the components of meaning that is relevant and is also owned by a second element, namely the topic.

Beekman and Callow (1974) explain that the metaphor consists of three parts, namely (a) the topic, ie objects or matters discussed; (b) the image, which is part of the metaphorical figure of speech is used to describe a topic in the framework of the comparison; (c) the point of similarity, namely the part that shows the similarities between the subject and image. Which make up the third part of the metaphor is not always mentioned explicitly. Occasionally, one of three parts, namely the topic, some of the images, or the point of resemblance implicit

Keraf (1992:137) says, “Metaphors included in the style of figurative language. This style is first formed based on comparisons or similarities.

Compare something to something else, then try to find traits that show

similarities between the two”. Comparison actually contains two terms, namely

(22)

lyrics etc. All of them use it to beautify their sentence and give the magnificent words to interest to reader and hearer.

Lakoff and Johnson (1980, 1999) greatly contributed to establishing the importance of conceptual metaphor as a framework for thinking in language. In recent years many scholars have investigated the original ways in which writers use novel metaphors and question the fundamental frameworks of thinking implicit in conceptual metaphors. When considering the role conceptual metaphor plays in the worldview of the community, the problem becomes twofold. From a sociological, cultural, or philosophical perspective, the question becomes, to what extent introducing,

Larson (1998: 271-271), which emphasizes that, like Simile, Metaphor is a figurative expression that is based on the comparison. He explained that the metaphor and simile is a grammatical forms that represent the two propositions in semantic structure. A proposition consists of a topic and the explanation of the topic.

Henle (1981:83) says that a metaphor consist of giving a thing a name that belongs to something else and the thing is not marely to physical objects but also to more abstract object or to any topic of thought. This is clear that metaphor is used to thought and mental representation or nonphysical entities serving as the objects of thought, in addition to concrete and physical things.

(23)

unconventional way. And when this unconventional act of reference or collligation is understood on the basis of similarity, matching or analogy involving the conventional referent or colligates of the unit and the actual unconventional referent or colligates”.

2.2 Functions of Metaphor

The benefit of metaphors is that we can express ideas for which there are no words (or for which singular words don’t quite suffice) The function of metaphor in literature is twofold. The first, and more practical, function is to allow the reader greater understanding of the concept, object, or character being described. This is done by comparing it to an item that may be more familiar to the reader. The second function is purely artistic: to create an image that is beautiful or profound or otherwise produces the effect that the writer desires.

(24)

From the above arguments, explanations and examples, we can easily infer the function of metaphors; both in our daily lives and in a piece of literature. Using appropriate metaphors appeals directly to the senses of listeners or readers, sharpening their imaginations to comprehend what is being communicated to them. Moreover, it gives a life-like quality to our conversations and to the characters of the fiction or poetry. Metaphors are also ways of thinking, offering the listeners and the readers fresh ways of examining ideas and viewing the world.

2.3 Type of Metaphor

Metaphors can be classified in a range of different ways, based on various criteria, from complexity to level of usage.

* Absolute metaphor: Separated subject and vehicle. * Active metaphor: New and not established.

* Complex metaphor: Multi-layered. * Compound metaphor: With many parts.

* Dead metaphor: Normal language, no longer recognized as metaphor. * Dormant metaphor: Weak connection between vehicle and subject. * Extended metaphor: One subject, many sub-elements.

* Implicit metaphor: Incomplete description.

* Mixed metaphor: Mismatched combination of metaphors. * Pataphor: Extreme form of metaphor.

* Simple metaphor: Single meaning and linkage.

(25)

* Synechdochic metaphor: Use a part as metaphor for the whole. But the writer only write metaphor into three types:

i) Personification

Personification is a figure of speech in which a thing, an idea or an animal is given human attributes. The non-human objects are portrayed in such a way that we feel they have the ability to act like human beings. For example, when we say, “The sky weeps” we are giving the sky the ability to cry, which is a human quality. Thus, we can say that the sky has been personified in the given sentence. Kennedy (1983:686) says, “Personification is a figure of speech in which a thing or abstract term (truth, nature) is made human

For example : Jeju island calls my name.

Jeju island likened to a human. in this sentence, means is a great desire to go to the island of Jeju, and could mean a desire to visit the island of Jeju.

Another example of personification, “The dish runs away with the spoon”. Here, the dish and the spoon as the inanimate object are depicted as human. Literally, it implies that the dish and the spoon are run away or doing human activity. Figuratively, the sentence is an idiom means that the supper or eating activity runs well and all the menus are eaten.

ii) Simile

(26)

imperfections and limitations of the comparative relationship to a greater extent than metaphors. Metaphors are subtler and therefore rhetorically stronger in that metaphors equate two things rather than simply compare them. Similes also hedge/protect the author against outrageous, incomplete, or unfair comparison.

Generally, metaphor is the stronger and more encompassing of the two forms of rhetorical analogies. Similies are mainly used in forms of poetry that are comparing an inanimate and a living object. There are also terms that have a similies and personification in them, which is often used for humorous purposes and for comparing .

For example : “cute as a kitten,”

Comparing the way someone looks to the way a kitten looks. kitten is cute thing for some people. So, the expression when people look the cute girls, it means they like look a kitten.

Another example he runs like a leopard. ‘runs like a leopard’ is our focus. As we know, when a leopard runs, it is very fast. Therefore, it is well-known as the fastest animal in the world in running. So the speaker means that he runs so fast. iii) Hyperbole

(27)

long time, you say, “Ages have passed since I last saw you”. You may not have met him for three or four hours or a day, but the use of the word “ages” exaggerates this statement to add emphasis to your wait. Therefore, a hyperbole is an unreal exaggeration to emphasize the real situation.

For example: Tono ran as fast as lightning.

In terms of running speed depiction Tono were compared with the flash, use-the hyperbolic figure of speech. Run as fast as any human being, certainly cannot be equated with lightning speed. Here, too, the size of the displayed time is much less than the time actually used. In addition to hyperbole, here looked a comparison or parable.

Another example of hyperbole, “I have not seen him for centuries.” Literally, the sentence means that the person has a long life until his age 100 years old. The sentence exaggerates the feeling of a person toward his friends. Figuratively, it means that the person really lose his friend for a long time.

2.4 Song

Song is an artistic form of expression base a single (and often standalone) work of pattern, and form. It can be wordless or with words. Written words created specifically for music or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. Types of Song

(28)

Art songs are songs created for performance in their own right, usually with piano accompaniment, although they can also have other types of accompaniment such as an orchestra or string quartet, and are always notated. generally they have an identified author and composer and require voice training for acceptable performances. German-speaking communities use the term art song Kunstliedto distinguish so-called "serious" compositions from folk song Volkslied. The lyrics are often written by a poet or lyricist and the music separately by a composer. Art songs may be more formally complicated than popular or folk songs, though many early Lieder by the likes of Franz Schubert are in simple strophic form. They are often important to national identity.

Art songs feature in many European cultures, including but not limited to: Russian, German, Italian, French, Scandinavian, Portuguese, Spanish. There are also highly regarded British and American art songs in the English language. Cultures outside of Europe that have a classical music tradition, such as India, may or may not feature art songs. The accompaniment of European art songs is considered as an important part of the composition.

The art song of the period in which they originally flowered is often a duet in which the vocalist and accompanist share in interpretive importance. The pieces were most often written to be performed in a home or salon setting, although today the works enjoy popularity as concert pieces. The emergence of poetry during this era was much of what inspired the creation of these pieces by Brahms, Schumann, Schubert and other composers.

(29)

2) Folk songs

Folk songs are songs of often anonymous origin (or are public domain) that are transmitted orally. They are frequently a major aspect of national or cultural identity. Art songs often approach the status of folk songs when people forget who the author was. Folk songs are also frequently transmitted non-orally (that is, as sheet music), especially in the modern era. Folk songs exist in almost every, if not all, culture. For more on folk songs, see Folk music. A folk song originates with an individual, perhaps on the spur of the moment. It is taken up by others, a detail is changed, a stanza added, another version created, and in the course of its wonderings it becomes the collective expression of a group.

3) Popular songs

Modern popular songs are typically distributed as recordings, and are played on the radio, though all other mass media that have audio capabilities are involved. Their relative popularity is inferred from commercially significant sales of recordings, ratings of stations and networks that play them, and ticket sales for concerts by the recording artists.

(30)

production, musical form, and listening which they associate with a different kind of music classical musicand thus they generally find popular music lacking. The main characteristics of an art song are:

1) It is a short piece for solo voice

2) The verses are well written and my either be through composed (each stanza of the poem is sung to new music) or stopic ( all stanzas of the poem are sung to the same music.

3) Often accompanied by the piano using virtuoso tehniques. 4) Hight artistic and literary quality.

(31)

3. ANALYSIS

3.1 Simile

Is explicit use of connecting words (such as like, as, so, than, or various verbs such as resemble). In song “22” the expression of metaphor in terms of simile has been found 2 similes, in the song “Cold as you” have been found one simile, in the song “Blank space” have been found one simile “Holy Ground” has been found two simile, in the song “ The Lucky one” have been found one simile, in the song “Untouchable” has been found two similes, and in the song “The worst days with you” has been found one similes. And one simile has been found in the song “Mean” and the last has been two similes found in the song “Red”.

They are:

1) It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters.

(32)

2) It feels like one of those nights, you look like bad news.

This simile same with the first lyric. Like is simile in this lyrics and bad news is phrase. Bad news is a news we want not to hear. Usually bad news always brings sadness, disappointment or prejudicial. Someone in the lyrics is narrated like bad news, which means a person is not good, and danger. Anger and hatred of a woman to a man that the woman take it as bad news.

3) I've never been anywhere

The simile in this lyric is as and cold as element of simile. Cold attitude is the opposite of a friendly attitude, do not like to care about anything around him. Do not like to smile. Quiet and did not talk much. Also easy to angry. You could say it includes bad attitude. If a higher scale could be called "cruel" indifferent attitude towards something, no matter the same person, and if spoken to just stay quiet. Speak only as needed.

4) I can read you like a magazine.

Magazine is a book that often reads some women. Read magazines to be one activity that is very easily done by most women. Some women are experts in reading. And the phrase "I can read you like a magazine" shall mean the woman could read the movements of a man. And the woman was able to know what you want done by the man. Simile of lyric is like this is followed by the next sentence is read magazine.

5) I was

(33)

This simile like the sentence before. This sentences also an expression of using the word like as an element of simile. That is the feel Happy when meet someone who we loves again after long gone. The feeling like perfect rhyme. Perfect rhyme in poems with a will be beautiful and feelings in a woman feel s is a very happy . When he saw someone she loves come back.

6) Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress.

The expression of using the word is like followed by the a girl in a brand new dress. The girl who has a new dress feels like happy. We often find the girls with the new dress look like very happy. She will spinning in mirror and smile to tries her new dress. Feeling like that was described very happy. Some people do that if they feel happy, that is spinning and dancing.

7) Another name goes up in lights, like diamonds in the sky.

Simile of this sentence is like a diamond in the sky. We all know luminous shine is one of the attributes of victory. Shimmering glow into something that is considered a win. We all know diamonds is a matter that is considered expensive, luxurious and beautiful. In the presence of diamonds in the sky can be interpreted a marvelous thing that is located high or high rank. The world of entertainment is the name most often referred to by his achievements were considered the most good, the most shining. So, another goes up names in light like a diamond in the sky is the new name in entertainment that is has a good prestation and they name be tranding topic in the world.

(34)

This lyric has a simile using Followed Like weather. Water never silent nature somewhere. Just like life, time, place and situation are always changing as water. Even era also changed. could mean a change is a matter that has become a necessity for humans. Life is always changing, like as water is always changing is never silent.

9) The way you move is like a full on rainstorm.

As we know, the rain storm was very heavy rain, with average speeds above normal rainfall. A change that is in man is very fast so equated with the rain storm. Changes in a person is considered as something of the person. Changes have two sides that change is good and bad change, someone who has long been familiar with her partner, if the partner is changed then it is considered as a new one in the know. Changes make a person happy or sad. Rapid changes can make someone express as something of a surprise

10) Untouchable burn in brighter than the sun.

Untouched burn brighter than the sun. the light of love that is considered brighter than the sun. we are know sun shinee is so hot. Describe is a burning feeling, a love that can not be expressed with words. A sense of spirit and passionate make someone think it was much brighter than the sun.

11) She acts like she is five years old.

(35)

old child who does not understand anything. She do anything she loves to do, without think the adverse effect.

12) Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street, Faster than the wind, Passionate as sin, ending so Suddenly.

Simile of this paragraph is "like, Than, and so". end street is is the state of the road that can not be passed. maserati control in stalemate is impossible. moreover faster than the wind. We all know there is no human being that can drive any vehicle faster than the wind movement. Then this figurative word Described for the love of a woman who is so great. So she has a big love for her man. sin is a bad thing that humans do. Songwriter describe that she feels love was very big for him. Because Love is passionate, and nothing people can describe what is love so, the song writer tries to describe "Loving him is like driving a new maserati down a dead end street, Faster than the wind, Passionate as sin, ending so Suddenly”. As an expression of his love.

13) Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you've never met.

It is impossible. how we can remember someone who we never knew before. we do not know what the person is, and we do not know, it's something very difficult to do, even impossible to be done. so the meaning of the word of this sentence is to forget the things that are not possible to be done, and it is very difficult to do. This woman can not forget her lover.

3.2 Personification

(36)

human thing as if it were human. Personification gives huma qualities, such as way of a the song “clean” in the song “Can i go with you?” there is one personification, in the song “New Romantic” have been one personification. In the song “I Know places” have been found one personification, and in the song “Untouchable” have been one personification.

They are:

1) When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst.

Thirsty plants. thirst is human nature. Plant interpreted as their expectations in a sentence in, i hope once existed between them and go away when one of them forgot those expectations. Expectations of hope that they plan to have been lost, and be memorable. And plants that died of thirst is the hope that has been lost. Their wishes to be together has been destroyed.

2) Let the flood carry away all my pictures of you.

The personification in this paragraf is Carry away. Flooding is a condition where the water experiencing a high volume. Flooding is a state that harm others. and some flooding events can lead to someone losing their objects. Carry is a task undertaken by humans. And sentences that should be used is flooding resulted my picture, and my memory is lost.

3) Heartbreak is the national anthem. We sing it proudly.

(37)

state by other countries. The national anthem is not a song that was made by one mistake. National anthem created in accordance with the country's identity. Nothing anthem that tells of heartbreak, all tell of the spirit of the national anthem, and about the country. Here in the mean is due to sing the national anthem often, the pain often spoken as well as singing the national anthem. Which is sung proudly by everyone.

4) Love's a fragile little flame, it could burn out

Love is a feeling of affection towards someone, while fire is the element earth. Fire is hot, small fires over time will be great and burning. Here interpreted that love is a fire that can burn, because love is considered alive, vigorously. And the spirit of love is considered like a burning fire.

5) It’s like a million little stars spelling out your name.

We are know Star is an extraterrestrial object. Star is inanimate objects. Star is one of the celestial bodies that have a very large size as a rock. Stars cannot speak like human. In this sentences, the feelings of human so wonderful. She feels like all stars can spelling the name of someone who her loves. She falls in love very deep.

3.3 Hyperbole

Hyperbole is a figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect. Hyperbole is the use of obvious and deliberate exaggeration.

(38)

been found one hyperbole, in the song “Your guardian angel” have been found one hyperbole, in the songs “Your anything, The last time, Today was fairytale, Nevermind, your face, breath and “The best day” has been found each one hyperbole, and the last in the song “white horse” has been found one hyperbole. They are:

1) God smiles on my little brother, Inside and out he's better than I am.

Hyperbole in this sentences is "God smiles" as we know, god does not form. Moreover god smiled. No man who knows what kind of God. This sentence therefore can be interpreted as a god affection to each other. Likened to someone who smiled. Someone smiles when there are things that make them happy. So also God, here interpreted god happy and dear to her younger brother who has better character than her.

2) Say you're sorry, that face of an angel.

This same hyperbole like the first song. "An angel" is the hyperbole of this sentence. Angel is God's creatures that we never know his face. It's just that a lot of people who think the angels are beings who have kindly nature, has a beautiful face, and wings. Nothing can describe the shape of an angel. but the picture is outstanding, angel very perfect. His face changed for the better when he apologized, this is called angel face. The good face. Because angel has good character.

3) But it's killing me to see you go after all this time.

(39)

Here, kill interpreted as making feel pain in woman because she left her boyfriend after what they went through together. The feeling is not ready to make women feel tremendous pain when see her boyfriend is gone. The feeling of being killed and wanted to die Because she lost someone very needed.

4) She can not see the way your eyes, Light up when you smile.

Everyone knows that the normal human eye can not have a light. Eyes are the

most important human senses. eyes to see, eye exposed to bright light could be damaged. So it is very impossible that the eyes emit bright light. This phrase means that the man has eyes that can pull partner, has a beautiful eyes and a good smile that if her partner's eyes looks, then her partner was Attracted to the man. But there are some women who are not interested when eye contact with this man. That's why when he smiled as there is a bright light in his eyes

5) And everytime you look at me, I could go crazy.

Crazy is a case in which a person loses consciousness, has not shame and often do strange things. Humans will not be mad just because in view by the person she likes. Probably feeling confused, embarrassed and nervous described as crazy in this sentence. "Crazy" is the hyperbole in this sentence.

6) You've got a smile that takes me to another planet.

(40)

sentence is "another planet". This sentence describe how good his feeling a person when he saw his girlfriend smiling. He feels very happy.

7) Right before your eyes I'm breaking, You break my heart in the blink of an

eye, eye, eye.

A broken heart is a human characteristic traits. Every human must have felt broken heart.dan heartbreak can occur very quickly and slowly , but, broken heart not as quick as a wink. Eye blink very fast, 1 second. And to make one broken heart at least takes 5 seconds. So the means of this sentence is that he suffered a broken heart with a very short time. Thus describe as a wink. hurt feelings that arise too quickly makes this woman's heart ache. and describe as a wink.

8) I can be You little beauty queen.

The queen is the leader, who has a good nature, thoughtful, and has a high degree in a group. That is a thing of beauty desired by all women. Many people competing to become a beauty queen. Beauty queen is the one that is Considered to have a very high beauty. And in this sentence, the woman can be the beauty queen for men. Men really loves a beautiful woman, beautiful in both physical and has a beautiful heart. Therefore the sentence i could be your little beauty queen describe someone who wants to look perfect, and try to be beautiful for her man.

B. The 20 song lyrics of Taylor Swift "22"

It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters And make fun of our exes, uh uh, uh uh.

It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight To fall in love with strangers, uh uh, uh uh.

Yeah,

We're happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time It's miserable and magical.

Oh, yeah

Tonight's the night when we forget about the deadlines It's time

Uh oh!

I don't know about you But I'm feeling 22

Everything will be alright If you keep me next to you You don't know about me But I'll bet you want to Everything will be alright

If we just keep dancing like we're 22, ooh-ooh

22, ooh-ooh

It seems like one of those nights, This place is too crowded.

Too many cool kids, uh uh, uh uh (who's Taylor Swift anyway, ew?) It seems like one of those nights,

We ditch the whole scene and end up dreaming Instead of sleeping.

Yeah,

We're happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way It's miserable and magical.

Oh, yeah

Tonight's the night when we forget about the heartbreaks It's time

Uh oh! (hey!)

(50)

You don't know about me But I'll bet you want to

Everything will be alright (alright) If we just keep dancing like we're 22, ooh-ooh (oh, oh, oh)

22, ooh-ooh

I don't know about you 22, ooh-ooh

22, ooh-ooh

It feels like one of those nights, We ditch the whole scene. It feels like one of those nights, We won't be sleeping.

It feels like one of those nights, You look like bad news.

I gotta have you, I gotta have you. Ooh-ooh

Ooh-ooh, ye-e-e-e-eah, hey

I don't know about you (I don't know about you) But I'm feeling 22

Everything will be alright If you keep me next to you

You don't know about me (you don't know about me) But I'll bet you want to

Everything will be alright

If we just keep dancing like we're 22, ooh-ooh

22, ooh-ooh

22, ooh-ooh, yeah, yeah 22, ooh-ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah It feels like one of those nights, We ditch the whole scene It feels like one of those nights, We won't be sleeping

It feels like one of those nights, You look like bad news,

(51)

"Cold As You"

You have a way of coming easily to me

And when you take, you take the very best of me So I start a fight cause I need to feel something

And you do what you want cause I'm not what you wanted Oh what a shame, what a rainy ending given to a perfect day Just walk away, no use defending words that you will never say And now that I'm sitting here thinking it through

I've never been anywhere cold as you

You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray And I stood there loving you and wished them all away And you come away with a great little story

Of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you

You never did give a damn thing honey but I cried, cried for you And I know you wouldn't have told nobody if I died, died for you (Died for you)

Oh what a shame, what a rainy ending given to a perfect day Every smile you fake is so condescending

Counting all the scars you made

(52)

"Blank Space"

Nice to meet you, where you been? I could show you incredible things Magic, madness, heaven, sin Saw you there and I thought Oh my God, look at that face You look like my next mistake Love's a game, wanna play? New money, suit and tie I can read you like a magazine Ain't it funny, rumors fly

And I know you heard about me So hey, let's be friends

I'm dying to see how this one ends Grab your passport and my hand

I can make the bad guys good for a weekend So it's gonna be forever

Or it's gonna go down in flames You can tell me when it's over If the high was worth the pain Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane

'Cause you know I love the players And you love the game

'Cause we're young and we're reckless We'll take this way too far

It'll leave you breathless Or with a nasty scar Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane But I've got a blank space, baby And I'll write your name

Cherry lips, crystal skies

I could show you incredible things Stolen kisses, pretty lies

You're the King, baby, I'm your Queen Find out what you want

Be that girl for a month

(53)

Rose garden filled with thorns Keep you second guessing like "Oh my God, who is she?" I get drunk on jealousy

But you'll come back each time you leave

'Cause, darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream Boys only want love if it's torture

(54)

"Holy Ground"

I was reminiscing just the other day,

While having coffee all alone and Lord, it took me away. Back to a first-glance feeling on New York Time.

Back when you fit in my poems like a perfect rhyme. Took off faster than a green light "Go".

Yeah, you skipped the conversation when you already know. I left a note on the door with a joke we’d made,

And that was the first day.

And darling, it was good never looking down. And right there where we stood was holy ground. Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress,

We had this big wide city all to ourselves.

We blocked the noise with the sound of ‘I need you’, And for the first time I had something to lose,

And I guess we fell apart in the usual way. And the story’s got dust on every page,

But sometimes I wonder how you think about it now. And I see your face in every crowd.

Cause darling, it was good never looking down. And right there where we stood was holy ground.

Tonight I’m gonna dance for all that we’ve been through. But I don’t wanna dance if I’m not dancing with you. Tonight I’m gonna dance like you were in this room. But I don’t wanna dance if I’m not dancing with you, It was good never looking down.

And right there where we stood was holy ground.

(55)

"The Lucky One"

New to town with a made up name in the angel city, Chasing fortune and fame.

And the camera flashes, make it look like a dream. You had it figured out since you were in school. Everybody loves pretty, everybody loves cool. So overnight you look like a sixties’ queen.

Another name goes up in lights, like diamonds in the sky. And they’ll tell you now, you’re the lucky one.

Yeah, they’ll tell you now, you’re the lucky one.

But can you tell me now, you’re the lucky one, oh, oh, oh... Now it’s big black cars, and Riviera views,

And your lover in the foyer doesn't even know you And your secrets end up splashed on the news front page. And they tell you that you’re lucky.

But you’re so confused,

Cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used. And all the young things line up to take your place.

Another name goes up in lights. You wonder if you’ll make it out alive. And they’ll tell you now, you’re the lucky one.

Yeah, they’ll tell you now, you’re the lucky one. Can you tell me now, you’re the lucky one, oh, oh, oh. It was a few years later, I showed up here.

And they still tell the legend of how you disappeared,

How you took the money and your dignity, and got the hell out. They say you bought a bunch of land somewhere,

Chose the Rose Garden over Madison Square, And it took some time, but I understand it now.

‘Cause now my name is up in lights, but I think you got it right, Let me tell you now, you’re the lucky one.

Let me tell you now, you’re the lucky one.

(56)

"Untouchable"

Untouchable like a distant diamond sky, Mmmm I'm reaching out and I just can't tell you why I'm caught up in you, I'm caught up in you Untouchable, burning brighter than the sun And when you're close I feel like coming undone In the middle of the night

When I'm in this dream It's like a million little stars Spelling out your name You gotta come on, come on Say that we'll be together Come on, come on Little taste of Heaven

It's half full and I won't wait here all day

I know you're saying that you'll be here anyway But you're untouchable

Burning brighter than the sun

Now that you're close I feel like coming undone In the middle of the night

When I'm in this dream It's like a million little stars Spelling out your name You gotta come on, come on Say that we'll be together Come on, come on

Oh, In the middle of the night Waking from this dream I wanna feel you by my side Standing next to me

You gotta come on, come on Say that we'll be together Come on, come on Little taste of Heaven Oh, oh I'm caught up in you Oh, oh, oh

Untouchable burning brighter than the sun And when you're close I feel like coming undone In the middle of the night

(57)

It's like a million little stars Spelling out your name You gotta come on, come on Say that we'll be together Come on, come on, oh oh

Oh, Oh, In the middle of the night Waking from this dream

I wanna feel you by my side Standing next to me

You gotta come on, come on Say that we'll be together Come on, come on Little taste of Heaven

(58)

"Mean"

You, with your words like knives

And swords and weapons that you use against me You have knocked me off my feet again

Got me feeling like a nothing

You, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard Calling me out when I'm wounded

You, picking on the weaker man

Well you can take me down with just one single blow But you don't know, what you don't know...

Someday I'll be living in a big ole city And all you're ever gonna be is mean

Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me And all you're ever gonna be is mean

Why you gotta be so mean? You, with your switching sides

And your wildfire lies and your humiliation You have pointed out my flaws again As if I don't already see them

I walk with my head down

Trying to block you out 'cause I'll never impress you I just wanna feel okay again

I bet you got pushed around Somebody made you cold But the cycle ends right now

'Cause you can't lead me down that road And you don't know, what you don't know... Someday I'll be living in a big ole city And all you're ever gonna be is mean

Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me And all you're ever gonna be is mean

Why you gotta be so mean?

And I can see you years from now in a bar Talking over a football game

With that same big loud opinion But nobody's listening

Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't sing

(59)

All you are is mean

And a liar, and pathetic, and alone in life And mean, and mean, and mean, and mean But someday I'll be living in a big ole city And all you're ever gonna be is mean, yeah Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me And all you're ever gonna be is mean

Whyou gotta be so?...

Someday I'll be living in a big ole city (Why you gotta be so?...) And all you're ever gonna be is mean (Why you gotta be so?...)

Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me (Why you gotta be so?...) And all you're ever gonna be is mean

“The worst days with you” She acts like shes 5 years old

since its cold shes got her big coat on I hear people laugh at her

i look up bored and she cries and runs

We star throwing stuff at her and she tries to hide this starts to get old

She hugs her legs and we put her to sleep im forced to take her home

And shes stupid to know why the trees change in the fall. And i know that she is scared

of every little thing and all

She thinks snow whites house very near how dumb but i know we had the worst day

ever today.

she starts acting like shes 13 and thinks everyone is mean She starts crying

And i push her away and cut her with my keys

and she starts to drive and drive until she found a town far enough away And she sulks and walks and tries to forget all our names

And she know if shes ever going to finish school And she knows shell never laugh

cause we shrunk and she grew

she dont know how lng itll take to feel okay but she knows she had the wors day ever today She had a bullying father

She thought she was getting stronger Her mom beats up her little brother

inside and out hes more popular than she is She grew up in an ugly house

and had no space to run

and she had the worst days with me

there was a video i found from back when we were three she was trying to paint in the kitchen and she was talking to me

it was the age of teasing and bullying and throwing eggs at her window And her dad was super dumb

and i was the most handsome boy in the whole wide world

and now she knows why all the trees change in the fall

(61)

for giving her the evil eyes and making her feel like she could shine

(62)

"Red"

Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly

Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall

Like the colors in autumn, so bright just before they lose it all Losing him was blue like I'd never known

Missing him was dark grey all alone

Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met But loving him was red

Loving him was red

Touching him was like realizing all you ever wanted was right there in front of you

Memorizing him was as easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there's no right answer

Regretting him was like wishing you never found out that love could be that strong

Losing him was blue like I'd never known Missing him was dark grey all alone

Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met But loving him was red

Oh, red Burning red

Remembering him comes in flashbacks and echoes Tell myself it's time now, gotta let go

But moving on from him is impossible When I still see it all in my head In burning red

Burning, it was red

Oh, losing him was blue like I'd never known Missing him was dark grey all alone

(63)

"Clean"

(feat. Imogen Heap)

The drought was the very worst

When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst It was months, and months of back and forth

You're still all over me like a wine-stained dress I can't wear anymore

Hung my head as I lost the war, and the sky turned black like a perfect storm Rain came pouring down when I was drowning

That's when I could finally breathe

And by morning gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean

There was nothing left to do

When the butterflies turned to dust that covered my whole room So I punched a hole in the roof

Let the flood carry away all my pictures of you

The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud but no one heard a thing Rain came pouring down when I was drowning

That's when I could finally breathe

And by morning, gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean

I think I am finally clean Said I think I am finally clean 10 months sober, I must admit

Just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it 10 months older, I won't give in

Now that I'm clean I'm never gonna risk it The drought was the very worst

When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst Rain came pouring down when I was drowning

That's when I could finally breathe

(64)

"Can I Go With You"

Any day now, they're talking war I can see the look that's in your eyes They're not talking a week or two Oh, daddy can I go with you? Oh, daddy can I go with you?

You pack a suitcase, take a picture from the wall I always knew this time would come

When I ask how long you think you're gonna be You say, this crazy world's come undone Summer's over and leaves begin to fall And another winter's on the way

I knew I wasn't gonna take this very well But I'd give anything to have you here today Everyday now they're talking war

& I know this time is like it's never been before We're not talking about a week or two

(65)

"Sparks Fly"

The way you move is like a full-on rainstorm And I'm a house of cards

You're the kind of reckless That should send me runnin'

But I kinda know that I won't get far And you stood there in front of me Just close enough to touch

Close enough to hope you couldn't see What I was thinking of

Drop everything now Meet me in the pouring rain Kiss me on the sidewalk Take away the pain

'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile

Get me with those green eyes, baby, as the lights go down Give me something that'll haunt me when you're not around 'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile

My mind forgets to remind me You're a bad idea

You touch me once and it's really something,

You find I'm even better than you imagined I would be. I'm on my guard for the rest of the world

But with you I know it's no good

And I could wait patiently but I really wish you would... Drop everything now

Meet me in the pouring rain Kiss me on the sidewalk Take away the pain

'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile

Get me with those green eyes, baby, as the lights go down Give me something that'll haunt me when you're not around 'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile

I'll run my fingers through your hair and watch the lights go wild.

Just keep on keeping your eyes on me, it's just wrong enough to make it feel right.

And lead me up the staircase Won't you whisper soft and slow?

(66)

Kiss me on the sidewalk, Take away the pain

'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile.

(67)

"I Know Places"

You stand with your hand on my waist line It's a scene and we're out here in plain sight I can hear them whisper as we pass by It's a bad sign, bad sign

Something happens when everybody finds out See the vultures circling dark clouds

Love's a fragile little flame, it could burn out It could burn out

Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes And guns

They are the hunters, we are the foxes And we run

Baby, I know places we won't be found

And they'll be chasing their tails tryin' to track us down Cause I, I know places we can hide

I know places, I know places

Lights flash and we'll run for the fences Let them say what they want, we won't hear it Loose lips sink ships all the damn time

Not this time

Just grab my hand and don't ever drop it My love

They are the hunters, we are the foxes And we run

Baby, I know places we won't be found

And they'll be chasing their tails tryin' to track us down Cause I, I know places we can hide

I know places

They are the hunters, we are the foxes And we run

Just grab my hand and don't ever drop it My love

Baby, I know places we won't be found

And they'll be chasing their tails tryin' to track us down Cause I, I know places we can hide

(68)

"The Best Day" I'm five years old It's getting cold

I've got my big coat on I hear your laugh

And look up smiling at you I run and run

Past the pumpkin patch And the tractor rides

Look now -- the sky is gold I hug your legs and fall asleep On the way home

I don't know why all the trees change in the fall I know you're not scared of anything at all

Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away But I know I had the best day

With you today I'm thirteen now

And don't know how my friends Could be so mean

I come home crying and you hold me tight and grab the keys And we drive and drive

Until we've found a town Far enough away

And we talk and window-shop Until I've forgotten all their names I don't know who I'm gonna talk to Now at school

I know I'm laughing on the car ride home with you Don't know how long it's gonna take to feel okay But I know I had the best day

With you today

I have an excellent father

His strength is making me stronger God smiles on my little brother Inside and out

(69)

I grew up in a pretty house And I had space to run

And I had the best days with you There is a video

I found from back when I was three You set up a paint set in the kitchen And you're talking to me

It's the age of princesses and pirate ships And the seven dwarfs

Daddy's smart

And you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world Now I know why all the trees change in the fall I know you were on my side

Even when I was wrong

And I love you for giving me your eyes Staying back and watching me shine And I didn't know if you knew So I'm taking this chance to say That I had the best day

(70)

"White Horse" Say you're sorry That face of an angel

Comes out just when you need it to As I paced back and forth all this time Cause I honestly believed in you Holding on

The days drag on Stupid girl,

I should have known, I should have known I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale, I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet, Lead her up the stairwell

This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town,

I was a dreamer before you went and let me down,

Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around Baby I was naive,

Got lost in your eyes

And never really had a chance

My mistake, I didn't know to be in love You had to fight to have the upper hand I had so many dreams

About you and me Happy endings Now I know

I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale, I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet, Lead her up the stairwell

This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town,

I was a dreamer before you went and let me down,

Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around And there you are on your knees,

Begging for forgiveness, begging for me Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry

Cause I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale,

(71)

"Breathe"

I see your face in my mind as I drive away,

Cause none of us thought it was gonna end that way. People are people, and sometimes we change our minds. But it's killing me to see you go after all this time. Music starts playin' like the end of a sad movie, It's the kinda ending you don't really wanna see. Cause it's tragedy and it'll only bring you down, Now I don't know what to be without you around. And we know it's never simple, never easy. Never a clean break, no one here to save me.

You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand, And I can't breathe without you

But I have to. Breathe without you But I have to.

Never wanted this, never wanna see you hurt. Every little bump in the road I tried to swerve.

People are people, and sometimes it doesn't work out, Nothing we say is gonna save us from the fall out. And we know it's never simple, never easy. Never a clean break, no one here to save me.

You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand, And I can't breathe without you

But I have to. Breathe without you But I have to. It's two A.M.

Feelin' like I just lost a friend.

Hope you know it's not easy, easy for me. It's two A.M.

Feelin' like I just lost a friend.

Hope you know this ain't easy, easy for me And we know it's never simple, never easy. Never a clean break, no one here to save me. And I can't breathe without you

Look at you Look at me Look at who We could be I wanna know Who you are What you want From the start

And every time I look at you I can hardly say a thing My head starts to spin

And it hits me then I love you

And every time you look at me I could go crazy but I don't say it but I won't

Cause I'd rather be alone Than lose you

And all I really wanna do is be next to you But I'm too tired to fight

And I could tell you now But baby never mind All the time

Everyday

There's nothing I can do baby To make you go away

So look at you And look at me And think of who We could be

And every time I look at you I can hardly say a thing My head starts to spin

And it hits me then I love you

And every time you look at me I could go crazy but I don't say it but I won't

Cause I'd rather be alone Than lose you

And all I really wanna do is be next to you But I'm too tired to fight

And I could tell you now But baby never mind

All I really wanna say is I need you, babe But how could you understand

What happens if you turn away And everything turns blue and gray

"Today Was A Fairytale" Today was a fairytale You were the prince

I used to be a damsel in distress

You took me by the hand and you picked me up at six Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale Today was a fairytale I wore a dress

You wore a dark grey t-shirt You told me I was pretty When I looked like a mess Today was a fairytale Time slows down Whenever you're around

Can you feel this magic in the air? It must have been the way you kissed me Fell in love when I saw you standing there It must have been the way

Today was a fairytale It must have been the way Today was a fairytale Today was a fairytale

You've got a smile that takes me to another planet Every move you make everything you say is right Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale All that I can say

Is now it's getting so much clearer

Nothing made sense until the time I saw your face Today was a fairytal
