This main objective of this study is to identify the adjacency pairs in Eleanor and Park Novel written by Rainbow Rowell. The method used to analyze the data in this study is descriptive qualitative method where through this method the writer clearly described the adjacency pairs in Eleanor&Park Novel written by Rainbow Rowell. The result of this study showed that there are 8 types of adjacency pairs in Eleanor & Park Novel written by Rainbow Rowell, those are Greeting-Greeting, Summon-Answer, Question-Answer, Request-Refusal, Compliance-Incompliance, Blame-Denial, Invitation-Declination, Agreement-Disagreement

8 Improving the Students’ Ability through Modeling

Many students, especially young learners find reading activities tiresome, even frustrating at times. This condition has led the children to a halt in their language development. The preliminary study conducted in three Big EC classes through class observations and interviews with three EC teachers showed that teaching reading is not an easy task. The paper will discuss the investigation on how the Cooperative Learning method improves young learners’ reading ability. In the research, Cooperative Learning which creates an atmosphere in which each student will make an effort to reach success (Slavin, 2001:16) was implemented so that the children can work together to achieve their goal. The Content Map is used as an organizer to memorize the information from the reading (Novak, 1991). Classroom Observation Notes, the Reading Task Scoring Sheet, and a Questionnaire were used in the Grade Six EC class to determine the significance of the improvement. The results showed that Cooperative Learning encouraged the children to work together to achieve the goal and in turn built the children’s confidence and understanding towards the reading so that their reading ability was improved. Tujuan utama dari tulisan ini adalah untuk menjelaskan kemampuan berbicara siswa melalui pendekatan Cooperative Learning. Cooperative Learning diasumsikan sebagai salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Tidak hanya itu, Cooperative Learning juga dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa bersosialisasi dengan orang lain karena esensi dari pendekatan adalah bekerja dalam kelompok. Pendekatan ini sangat tepat diaplikasikan di dalam kelas yang dalam jumlah besar. Cooperative Learning dianggap mampu mengatasi kekurangan siswa yang tidak terbiasa berbicara di depan kelas. Dalam Cooperative Learning, siswa dilatih untuk berani berbicara di depan umum misalnya mempresentasikan hasil kerja kelompok kepada guru dan teman-teman lainnya.

Woman’s Issues as Reflected in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

This research is aimed to gain an analysis and interpretation of feminism values and the roles of culture and religion toward woman’s stereotype in Pride and Prejudice. It is also aimed to improve the readers’ appreciation by feminist criticism. This research is classified as qualitative research and the method is library research method because the data are collected by focusing in the main source that is Pride and Prejudice novel written by Jane Austen and some other relevant books and articles about feminism and the history of women in England. The technique of analyzing the data are identifying the text of novel based on indicators of feminism and woman’s stereotype, classifying the feminism values into some kinds of feminism; Liberal, Marxist, Radical, Psychoanalytical and Socialist feminism, interpreting the feminism values and woman’s stereotype from the text of novel and relating it to some supporting books and articles which discuss about woman’s issues. The result of this research is Elizabeth Bannet as the main woman character in Pride and Prejudice showed her acts and behaviors which reflected as Liberal, Psychoanalytical and Social feminism. While as the reflection of Marxist and Radical feminism, Elizabeth did not present any acts or behaviors of it. There are also several beliefs from culture and religion which had roles in creating woman’s stereotype in the novel. As a result, Jane Austen described the expectation of modern feminism which was portrayed through the characters.

Analysis Of Main Character In ‚Jack And The Giants Slayer‛ By Bryan Singer

The film ‚Jack and the Giants Slayer‛ by Bryan Singer is about the man named Jack who fights to against the giants to save the princess named Isabelle. Because of his bravery, he is crowned as the king and married the princess. The objective of this research is to analyze Jack, that includes the character, characterization, and the type of the character, Jack. In analyzing this film, the writer uses the qualitative method. He also applies the Intrinsic Approach in analyzing the character and the characterization of Jack as the main character in the film ‘The Jack and the Giants Slayer‛ by Bryan Singer. The primary data are taken from the script, and the secondary data are taken from the library and internet browsing. The result of this research is Jack is a hero who is brave to fight with the giants not because of his muscles but because of his brain. The writer finds that he is genius not smart. The type of the main character, Jack, is classified into Flat Character.

12 The Influence Of Instructional Media In Teaching Vocabulary

Kosakata merupakan bagian terpenting dari unsur bahasa yang harus dikuasai dengan baik. Sebagai pebelajar Bahasa Asing, siswa harus menguasai sejumlah kosakata agar tidak mengalami kesulitan dalam berkomunikasi. Seperti kita ketahui bersama bahwa kosakata merupakan elemen dasar yang harus di kuasai ketika kita belajar bahasa. Sebagian besar siswa di Gorontalo masih kurang menguasai kosakata dalam Bahasa Inggris sehingga kemampuan mereka dalam berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris pun masih sangat rendah. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan beberapa penelitian yang dilakukan di beberapa sekolah baik sekolah dasar hingga sekolah menengah, rendahnya kemampuan berbahasa siswa sebagian besar dipengaruhi oleh minimnya kosakata yang mereka kuasai. Hal ini tentu harus menjadi perhatian bagi guru sebagai pengajar bahasa. Pengaplikasian metode pengajaran yang baik dan penggunaan media pembelajaran yang tepat tentu menjadi faktor utama yang harus dilakukan. Berdasarkan hasil observasi penulis di sebuah sekolah menengah, penggunaan media instruksional dalam pengajaran bahasa sangat efektif. Dengan menggunakan media gambar ( visual) dan video (audiovisual), terbukti bahwa siswa mampu menguasai sejumlah kosakata yang diberikan.

Natural Lexical Equivalent in Translating English Literary Works

Penerjemahan adalah kegiatan menerjemahkan bahasa sumber ke bahasa target yang memiliki padanan kata yang meliputi aspek makna dan gaya bahasa (Nida dan Taber, 1969: 12). Dalam menerjemahkan sebuah teks, terutama teks sastra, hal terpenting yang harus diperhatikan adalah menemukan padanan kata yang alami dari setiap kata untuk diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa target. Hal ini sangat penting karena sebuah hasil terjemahan yang baik tidak hanya terlihat sebagai sebuah terjemahan yang biasa tetapi terlihat sebagai hasil terjemahan yang baik dan natural. Selain itu, menerjemahkan sebuah teks sastra tidak hanya dengan mengandalkan kamus saja karena makna di dalam kamus hanyalah makna kata secara harfiah. Sehingga banyak hasil terjemahan yang terkesan tidak mencerminkan makna sebenarnya dari bahasa sumber.

Bahasa Inggris, telah menjadi alat yang sangat ampuh untuk menyebarkan budaya penutur bahasa tersebut ke seluruh dunia. Itulah sebabnya ketika kita telusuri ke belakang kita akan menemukan bahwa hampir seluruh budaya populer yang sifatnya mendunia pada hari ini berasal dari negara-negara yang penduduknya berbahasa Inggris, terutama Amerika Serikat. Beberapa contoh diantaranya adalah musik pop ala barat, film, makanan dan minuman, pakaian, dan pengunaan istilah-istilah berbahasa Inggris baik dalam bentuk lisan ataupun tulisan. Hampir semua budaya dari Amerika dengan cepatnya menjadi budaya global. Budaya-budaya tersebut bukan hanya sekedar disenangi, tetapi juga secara gradual beberapa sisi dari budaya tersebut menjadi gaya hidup, terutama dikalangan kaum muda dan penduduk perkotaan. Gejala semacam ini bukan hanya terjadi di negara-negara berkembang seperti di Indonesia, tetapi juga menunjukkan kecendrungan yang sama di negara-negara maju lainnya seperti Jepang, Jerman, Perancis, bahkan Inggris sebagai tempat asal muasal Bahasa Inggris. Kita tentunya dengan mudah dapat beragumentasi bahwa fenomena ini tentunya tak lepas dari hegemoni Amerika sebagai satu-satunya negara adi daya saat ini.

The Effectivesness of One Stays- the Rest Stray Strategy In the Teaching of Reading Comprehension

This present study was aimed at investigating the effects of Employing One Stays-the Rest Stray (OSRS) Strategy on the students performance in reading comprehension. Quasi Experimental Research was used in this study with Posttest Only Design which involved two classes as the experimental and control group. Each group consisted of 30 students. To get the data of the study, a reading comprehension test was constructed as a main instrument. The data of students’ reading score was analyzed by using Independent T-test, to see the differences between the two groups after the different treatments were applied for eight meetings. The findings of the study revealed that One Stays-the Rest Stray (OSRS) strategy had a possitive effect on the students’ reading comprehension. The students participated actively during the teaching and learning process and performed better reading comprehension on the posttest than those in the control group. The mean score gained for experimental group was 67.53, while for control group was 58.4. The statistical computation using Independent T-test showed that sig.p was 0.035 which was less than 5% level of significance, with df 58 and the observed ratio of 2.161 which was greater than 1.671, at the 5% level of significance. In light of the findings, it was recommended that the English teacher and lecturer had to train the students using the strategy, encourage and motivate the students to be more active, build mutual dependence (interdependence) among the member of groups, encourage the students to work cooperatively and to use English during the class continuously since they effect positively on their reading comprehension. However, controlling and active monitoring from the teacher and lecturer were required to handle the crowded circumstance that may occur during the implementation of OSRS.

Abstrak

Breaking Dawn Part 2 adalah sebuah Film yang berisi tentang transformasi Bella dari kehidupannya sebagai manusia menjadi vampir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa konflik yang dialami oleh Bella, karakter utama dalam Film tersebut dengan menerapkan teori Sigmund Freud. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif dan teori psikoanalitik Sigmund Freud dalam menganalisa Film ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ karya Bill Condon. Data primer diambil dari Film ‚Breaking Dawn Part 2‛ itu sendiri, dan data sekunder diambil dari artikel,buku dan internet. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan oleh peneliti, Bella mengalami beberapa konflik batin atas transformasinya dari manusia menjadi vampir. Dari sisi manusianya, ia tidak terbiasa dan dilarang minum darah manusia. Dari sisi vampir, ia butuh mengkonsumsi darah untuk keberlangsungan hidupnya. Hal-hal transformasi yang dialami Bella sangat tepat bila dikaji berdasarkan Freud psikoanalitik yaitu id, ego, dan superego.

This author explained of Psychological analyzed on Charles

Dickens’s ‚Oliver Twist‛. In this novel the author described the

Psychological condition of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens’s in

detail and systematically. The role that makes his soul racked, so the aims of the author to Psychological analyzed of ‚Oliver Twist‛. In this research, author applied his research is qualitative method based on reference. The author also used the Psychological of literature approach in analyzed the psychological problems of the character to back up research. All data were gotten from the novel and taken from internet, articles, and books. Based on the data analyzed, the result is

psychological condition type face by Oliver Twist psychological

problems and human mentality.
