Syllabus update

Cambridge Pre-U Certificate in Classical Greek (Principal) (9787)

(for examination in 2016–2018)

We have updated this syllabus. The latest syllabus is version 3, published September 2015. Changes made in version 3 are as follows:

Page 13: Homer, Iliad 24

Lines to be studied have now been specified as follows: Homer, Iliad 24. 281–804

Changes made in version 2 are as follows:

Changes have been made to pages 12 and 13, Paper 1 Verse Literature and page 14, Paper 2 Prose Literature.

The statement below has now been removed from the syllabus on Page 12.

Where prescribed text prescriptions specify only a portion or portions of an individual book, candidates are expected to have read the rest of the book in translation. Precise information is given with each prescription in the prescribed texts section below.

Page 13: Euripides, Bacchae 1–63, 215–47, 330–69, 642-–861, 912–76, 1025–1152 for examination in 2018

Page 14: The recommended text for Herodotus 2. 112-35 has been updated for examination in 2016

and 2017.

The statement below has now been included:

Despite the omission of occasional chapters, the most useful English commentary is Waddell, W G (ed.) 1998 Herodotus Book 2, Bristol Classical Press.

For Plato, Apology17a–24b, 30c–42b for examination in 2016, and For Plutarch, Themistocles, 3–17, for examination in 2018
