Millions of people in the United States are affected by editing disorders. More than 90% of those afficted are adolescent of young adult women. While all eating disorders share some common manifestations, anorexia nervose, bulmia nervosa, and binge eating each have distinctive symptoms and risks.
People who intentionally starve themselves, even while experiencing severe hinger pains, suffer from anorexia nervosa.
The disorder, which usually begins arround the time of puberty, involves extreme weight loss to at least 15% below the individuals normal body weight. Many people with the disorder look emaciated but are convinced they are overweight. In patients with the anorexia nervosa, starvation can damage vital organs such as the heart and brain. To protect it self, the body shifts into slow gear;
menstruasi periods stop, blood pressure rates drop, and thyroid function slows.
Excessive thirst and frequent unination may occur. Dehydration contributes to constipation, and reduced body fat leads to lowered body temperature and the inability to withstand cold. Mild anemia, swollen joints, reduced muscle mass, and light-headedness also commonly occur in those having anorexia nervosa.
Anorexia nervosa sufferes can exhibit sudden angry outbursts or become socially withdrawn. One in ten cases of anorexia nervosa leads to death from starvation, cardiac arrest,other medical complications or suicide. Clinical depression and anxiety place many individuals with eating disorders at risk for suicidal behavior.
people with bulimia nervosa consume large amounts of food and then rid their bodies of the excess calories by vomiting, abusing laxatives or diuretics, taking enemas, or exarcising obsessively. Some use a combination of all these forms of purging.
Individuals with bulimia who use drugs to stimulate vomiting, bowel movements, or urination may be in considerable danger, as this practice increases the risk of heart failure.
Dieting heavily between episodes of binging and purging is common. Because many individuals with bulimia binge and purge in secret and maintain normal or above normal body weight, they can often successfully hide their problem for years. But bulimie nervosa patients-even those of normal weight-can severely damage their bodies by frequent binge eating and purging may result in heart failure due to loss of vital minerals such as potassium. Vomiting can cause the esophagus to become inflamed and glands near the cheeks to become swollen. As in enorexia nervosa, bulimia may lead to irregular menstrual periods.

This disorder differs from bulimia because its sufferes do not purge. Individuals with bingeeating disorder feel that they lose control of themselves when eating. They eat large quantities of food and do not stop until they are uncomfortably full. Most sufferers are overweight or obese and have a history of weight fluctuations. As a result, they are prone to the serious medical problems associated with obesity, such as high colestrol, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Obese individuals also have a higher risk for gallbladder disease, heart disease, and some types of cancer. Usually, they have more difficulty losing weight and keeping it off than do people with serious weigt problems. Like anorexics and bulimics who exhibit.

Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by spores of the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. B.anthracis spores are highly resistant to inactivation and may be present in the soil for decades, occasionally infecting grazing animals that ingest the spores.
Goats,sheeps,and cattle are examples of animals that may become infected. Human infection may occur by three routes of exposure to anthrax spores: cutaneous (through the skin), gastrointestinal (by ingestion), and pulmonary (inhalation). In North America, human cases of anthrax are infrequent. However, the United States military views anthrax as a potential biological terrorism threat because the spores are so resistant to destruction and can be easily spread by release into the air.
The development of anthrax as a biological weapon by saveral foreign countries has been documented.
Human anthrax cases can occur in three forms. Cutaneous infection is the most common manifestation of anthrax in humans, accounting for more than 95% of cases.
Ingestion of undercooked or raw, infected meat can cause gastrointestinal anthrax infection. Breathing in airborne spores may lead to inhalation anthrax. The mortality rates from anthrax vary depending on exposure and are approximately 20% for cutaneous anthrax without antibiotics and 25% to 75%
for gastrointestinal anthrax; inhalation anthrax has a fatality rate 80% or higher.
Cutaneous anthrax can usually be successfully treated with antibiotics, and some antibiotics have also been approved for postexposure prophylaxis. The only known effective preexposure prevention against anthrax is the anthrax vaccine. The vaccine was developed from a strain of B.
Anthracis. The vaccine derives from the cell- free culture filtrate of this strain and, in its final formulation, is abbsorbed onto an alumunium salt. A well-controlled clinical trial using an anthrax vaccine similar to the licensed anthrax vaccine was conducted in U.S millworkers processing imported anima!

The term " virus is derived from the Latin word for poison or slime. It was originally applied to the noxious stench emanating from swamps that was thought to caus e avariety of diseases in the

The nature of viruses made them impossible to detect for many years even after bacteria have been discovered and studied. The healing power of maggots is not new. Human beings have discovered it several times. The Maya are said to have used maggots for therapeutic purposes a thousand years ago. As early as the sixteenth century, European doctors noticed that soldiers with maggot-infested wounds healing well. More recently, doctors have realized that maggots can be cheaper and more effective than drugs in some
respects, and these squirming larvae have, at times, enjoyed a quiet medical
renaissance. The problem may have more to do with weak stomachs of those using them than with good science. The modern heyday of maggot therapy began during World War I, when an American doctor named William Baer was shocked to notice that two soldiers who had laid on a battlefield for a week while their
abdominal wounds became infested with thousands of maggots, had recovered better than wounded men threated in the military hospital. After the war, Baer proved to the medical establishment that maggots could cure some of the toughest infections.
In the 1930s hundreds of hospitals used maggot therapy. Maggot therapy requires the right kind of larvae. Only the maggots of blowflies (a family that includes common bluebottles and green bottles) will do the job; they devour dead tissue, whether in an open wound or in a corpse.
Some other maggots, on the other hand, such as those of the screw-worm eat live tissue. They must be avoided. When blowfly eggs hatch in patient's wound, the maggots eat the dead flesh where
gangrene-causing bacteria thrive. They also excrete compounds that are lethal to bacteria they don't happen to swallow.
Meanwhile, they ignore live flesh, and in fact, give it a gentle growth-stimulating massage simply by crawling over it. When they metamorphose into flies, they leave without a trace-although in the process, they might upset the hospital staff as they squirm around in a live patient. When sulfa drugs, the first antibiotics emerged around the time of World War II, maggot therapy quickly faded into obscurity.
