ALADDIN AND THE MAGIC LAMP

Once upon a time, there lived a handsome boy in Baghdad. The name was Aladdin. He was a clever boy, but he did not like to work.

One day Aladin’s mother sent him to the market place to look for a job. In the market he met a magician. The magician asked him to work together with him. If Aladdin could do, he would get a lot of gold coins and jewellery. The magician asked Aladdin to go inside the cave and find a magical lamp there. He also gave a ring and said, “If you are in any trouble, rub this ring and a genie will come to your rescue!”

Aladdin went into the cave. Inside the cave, Aladdin was surprised by what he saw. Every corner was full of gold and treasures. A few minutes later, he found the lamp and quickly returned to the entrance of the cave.

Aladdin called out, “Magician, I have found the lamp.”

“Excellent,” answered the magician. “Quick, pass it to me!”

Aladdin did not trust the magician so he said, “Not so fast Magician. You must help me out of this cave first.”

The magician became very angry. When Aladdin was walking to the entrance, the magician pushed a huge rock over the entrance of the cave and left Aladdin and the lamp behind. Aladdin tried to move the rock all by himself, but it was too big and heavy, “Oh no! I am trapped in the cave!” he cried.

Suddenly, he remembered the magic ring. He rubbed it with the palm of his hand. To his surprise, a genie appeared before him and in a powerful voice said, “Master, I am the Genie of the ring. How can I help you?”

Aladdin was frightened, but he soon found the courage to ask, “Could you please send me back to my house?” In no time at all Aladdin was back home.

Aladdin took out the lamp. He wondered what would happen if he rubbed it. As Aladdin was rubbing it, all of a sudden another enormous genie stood before him. The genie of the lamp said, “Master, your wish is my command.” Aladdin was very excited and wished for an enormous palace and bags full of gold.

One day, a beautiful princess was passing by Aladdin’s palace. She stopped to talk to Aladdin and soon they became good friends. Before long, Aladdin and Jasmine fell in love each other. She married Aladdin and lived happily.

FLOOD

Flood is an overflow of water that soaks or covers land. Floods are the most frequent type of natural disaster worldwide. It can be caused by several things, naturally and form the effect of human behavior. The most common cause is because of the over capacity of the body of water, e.g. river or lake. As a result some of the water flows outside of the body of water. It can also occur in rivers, when the strength of the river is so high that it flows right out of the river channel. A flood from sea may be caused by a heavy storm, a high tide, a tsunami, or a combination the three.

Soil and vegetation absorbs most of the surface water, floods happen when there are lack of trees and the soil alone cannot absorb all the water. The water then runs off the land in quantities that cannot be carried in stream channels or kept in natural ponds or man-made reservoirs. A flood can also be caused by blocked sewage pipes and waterways, such as the Jakarta flood. There are several types of flood. Periodic floods occur naturally on many rivers, forming an area known as the flood plain. These river floods usually result from heavy rain, sometimes combined with melting snow, which causes the rivers to overflow their banks. A flood that rises and falls rapidly with little or no advance warning is called a flash flood.

Adapted from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood 25. From the text above we know that a flash flood is an … flood.

a. unknown b. unpredicted c. unbelievable d. unforgettable

26. What is the main idea of paragraph one? a. The definition of flood

b. How to prevent flood c. The effects of flood d. Several types of flood

August 27th 2009 Nelce Manoppo 43 Pahlawan Street Ambon

Dear Nelce Manoppo,

Last week my school held the celebration of the Independence Day. We had a tug and war

competition, climbing the palm tree competition, the singing and the speech contests. We did them in three days.

The first activity was the tug and war competition. Each class had to send a team of seven. Both the boys and the girls of each class had to send the teams. The boy team of my class became the winner because they were strong. They also worked as a good team. On the second day, we had the climbing a palm tree competition. It was only for boys and the students also worked in team. One team consisted of seven boys. It was very difficult to climb the palm tree because it was oily. The team of my class could not climb to the top, so that they lost the game.

The last activity was the singing and speech contest. Each class must send at least one participant for each group. Hening was the participant of the singing contest and she could be the runner-up. Juita joined the speech contest. Unfortunately, she did not win the competition.

The celebration of the Independence Day this year was very glorious. We will have similar programs next year. Does your school also hold the celebration of the Independence Day? I’ll be very happy to see your information, and I’m waiting for your letter.

Millions and millions of years ago, long before there were people, dinosaurs walked the earth. Dinosaurs were reptiles. The biggest dinosaurs were the largest animals that ever lived on land. The smallest were about the size of chicken.

Most dinosaurs ate plants. The gigantic brachiosaurus were as tall as a four-story building and weighed as much as 15 elephants. They had long neck that allowed them to eat leaves on high branches that other dinosaurs couldn’t reach.

Some dinosaurs survived by eating other animals, including other dinosaurs. The tyrannosaurus was one of the largest and most terrifying meat eaters on earth. Its sharp teeth and powerful jaws could easily crush bone.

(5)

http://risonetoo.wordpress.com

One of the great mysteries about dinosaurs is

why they became extinct, or died out, about 65 million years ago. Many scientists think that a huge asteroid or comet from space crashed into earth at this very time. Dust from the crash would have blocked sunlight and stopped plants from growing. The dinosaurs would have starved.
