I. DESKRIPSI MATA KULIAH

This subject presents principles and methods of conducting qualitative research. It begins with a comparison between quantitative and qualitative studies and strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Then it moves to the discussion on the qualitative

approach. The subject includes both theories and practices. The delivery of the materials employs some techniques such as lecturing, discussion, individual work, and group work. Students are to submit qualitative research proposals at the end of the semester, and their achievement is assessed through their classroom participation, home

assignments, mid- and end-semester tests, and individual proposals.

II. STANDARISASI KOMPETENSI MATA KULIAH

Upon completion of this subject, students are expected to understand:

differences between quantitative and qualitative approaches

strengths and weaknesses of each approach

principles of the qualitative approach

methods or techniques commonly employed in qualitative research, and

steps in conducting qualitative research
