ABSTRACT
Lagu ”Candy Shop” menggambarkan seks melalui perantara toko permen beserta
hal-hal di dalamnya. Adapun “Amusement Park” menggambarkan seks melalui

Candy Shop
By: 50 Cent
[Intro: 50 Cent]
Yeah...
Uh huh
So seductive
[Chorus]
I take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)
I'll take you to the candy shop
I'll have you spending all you got
Boy one taste of what I got
[Verse 1: 50 Cent]
You can have it your way, how do you want it
You gon' back that thing up or should I push up on it
Temperature rising, okay lets go to the next level
Dance floor jam packed, hot as a teakettle
I'll break it down for you now, baby it's simple
If you be a nympho, I'll be a nympho
In the hotel or in the back of the rental
On the beach or in the park, it's whatever you into
Got the magic stick, I'm the love doctor
Have your friends teasin you 'bout how sprung I gotcha
Wanna show me how you work it baby, no problem
Get on top then get to bouncing round like a low rider
I'm a seasons vet when it come to this shit
After you work up a sweat you can play with the stick
I'm tryin to explain baby the best way I can
I melt in your mouth girl, not in your hands (ha ha)
[Chorus]
I take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)
Boy one taste of what I got
I'll have you spending all you got
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)
[Bridge]
Girl what we do (what we do)
And where we do (and where we do)
The things we do (things we do)
Are just between me and you (oh yeah)
[Verse 2: 50 Cent]
Give it to me baby, nice and slow
Climb on top, ride like you in the rodeo
You ain't never heard a sound like this before
Cause I ain't never put it down like this
Soon as I come through the door she get to pullin on my zipper
It's like it's a race who can get undressed quicker
Isn't it ironic how erotic it is to watch em in thongs
Had me thinking 'bout that ass after I'm gone
I touch the right spot at the right time
Lights on or lights off, she like it from behind
So seductive, you should see the way she wind
Her hips in slow-mo on the floor when we grind
Drippin wet with sweat man its on and popping
All my champagne campaign, bottle after bottle its on
And we gon' sip til every bubble in the bottle is gone
[Chorus 2x]
I take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)
I'll take you to the candy shop
Boy one taste of what I got
I'll have you spending all you got

[Verse 1]
Good evening ladies, I'll tell you from the start
I'm hoping you enjoy my amusement park
And I find my pleasure in pleasing you
Some rides go fast, some rides go slow
If you fear heights when I'm high hell yeah I'll go low
It taste so sweet, that sticky cotton candy
If you get carried away
We'll be starting a family
This is a perfect time for a magic trick
Good humor is no fun without the magic stick
Now watch me as I pull a rabbit out a hat
Then you can use the rabbit all over your cat
Applause now thats the first half of my act
I started out like a pimp
Now I'm more like a mac
I don't need your paper just don't fuck with my stack
Oh its like that

[Chorus]
Shawty you don't have to take your pantys off
Just move 'em to the side
If you wanna ride on the roller coaster
Baby come on and ride
It go up and down and round and round
Its on tonight I know what you like
I know just how to break ya off
[Verse 2]
Now you can ride the horse round the carousel
Expolsion, trojans, all in the hotel
Put me to the test girl, I don't fail
I work it out, without a doubt
Theres plenty water rising sure to get you wet in the pop
Have your lustious seductions considered or not
Throw a hoop around the bottle
I'll be your teddy bear
Whatever color you like, you know I don't care
I really wanna thank you for attending this affair
Now go encourage your friends to come have fun here
I smile when I speak
But I'm being sincere
Your pass is valid all summer my dear
So at your convenience you can always return
There're so many tricks to the trade you should learn
Suck that, lick that, swollow that lolly pop
[Chorus]
Shawty you don't have to take your pantys off
Just move 'em to the side
If you wanna ride on the roller coaster
Baby come on and ride
It go up and down and round and round
Stand up or get on the floor
Its on tonight I know what you like
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Nowadays, songs become an important part in our lives. As we know, a song
usually reflects the composer’s condition. Songs are one of the devices to convey
language because they express the thoughts of the singer and the composer as well.
The composer expresses his thoughts and feelings and sometimes describes his
behaviors through his songs. As Hampson says in his article entitled “Thought on
Song of America Project”, “Song is a metaphor of the imagination; it is poetic
thought encapsulated in music, particularly in lyrics” (Hampson 1).
In expressing his thoughts, sometimes the composer uses metaphor. The
metaphor which is usually applied by the composer is actually cognitive metaphor.
Cognitive metaphor is a kind of metaphor which people often use in their daily
conversation. People often use cognitive metaphor within their utterances without
realizing it. We can see it from a very common saying people often say “Time is
money”. “Time is money” can be reflected in an expression such as: “You are
wasting my time.” The speaker tends to say that wasting time is like wasting money.
are not aware of the fact that it is a cognitive metaphor because it sounds
ordinary, but it shows that “Time is money” is a structural metaphor, a part of
cognitive metaphor, through which time is structured like money in the sense that
time is very valuable.
The cognitive metaphor becomes interesting for me to analyze because it is
always related to the human’s thought. As Lakoff and Johnson say, “We shall argue
that, on the contrary, human thought and processes are largely metaphorical. This is
what we mean when we say the human conceptual system is metaphorically
structured and defined. Metaphors as linguistic expression are possible precisely
because there are metaphors in a person’s conceptual system” (Lakoff and Johnson
6).
My topic belongs to cognitive linguistics, particularly cognitive metaphor. I
choose to analyze two songs that contain metaphors. The songs are 50 Cent’s famous
songs because 50 Cent has his own style in composing his songs. 50 Cent who has a
real name Curtis Jackson, is an orphan and born in South Jamaica but he has lived at
New York City all his life. 50 Cent is a rapper and he spent his hard life in street. 50
Cent’s surroundings makes his lifestyle getting closer to free sex, politics, riots
caused by racism, drugs, etc. 50 Cent’s lifestyle influences his style of compose
music to become distinctive and his choice of words in his songs usually supports the
theme of the songs. Thus, this thing makes 50 Cent different from other singers or
composers. In spite of that, there are a lot of metaphors found in 50 Cent’s songs.
Moreover, the metaphors used by 50 Cent are so uniquely arranged as to distinguish
his songs from other singers’ or composers’. The writing style of 50 Cent becomes a
to reveal people’s bad habit such as free sex. The topic of this thesis is the cognitive
metaphors in 50 Cent’s songs entitled ”Candy Shop”and “Amusement Park”.
In this thesis, I analyze two songs; they are “Candy Shop” and “Amusement
Park” because these songs obviously contain a lot of metaphors in their lyrics, which
I find to be the most important thing to be contemplated on. As a result, I take The
Cognitive Metaphors in 50 Cent’s Songs Entitled “Candy Shop” and “Amusement
Park” as the topic of my thesis because I want to analyze the metaphorical concept
of those songs. I also find that 50 Cent applies misogyny in both songs. Misogyny is
hostility toward the female gender thus makes women just like toys or objects for
men because men dominate women. It is based on patriarchal system (Johnson 1).
Therefore, the misogyny ideology which I used to analyze is divided into two parts
which have a different assumption in honor women’s dignity. The first is the one
which degrades women by called them as sex maniac, and another which admits that
men are freaks of sex.
The significance of this study is to find out how 50 Cent, whose songs are
very distinctive in terms of his lyrics, uses a great number of metaphors and how he
uses them to reveal the message of his songs and to find out that 50 Cent objectifies
women in those songs and thus he applies misogyny in it with the presence of the
metaphor. Hopefully, after reading this thesis, people will be more aware of their
words, so they can avoid the misunderstanding in interpreting the cognitive metaphor
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. How does 50 Cent use the metaphor to reveal his message in his songs?
2. How is misogyny reflected in 50 Cent’s songs?
3. How is the schema paradigm used as the basis in the analysis of this thesis?
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
1. This study is to know how 50 Cent uses the metaphor to reveal his message in his
songs.
2. This study is to know how misogyny is reflected in 50 Cent’s songs.
3. This study is to know how the schema paradigm used as the basis in the analysis
of this thesis?
METHODS OF RESEARCH
In the process of writing this analysis, the first step I take is reading the lyrics
of some of 50 Cent’s songs, and then I decide to analyze the lyricsof “Candy Shop”
and “Amusement Park”. The next step is analyzing and making the concept of the
structural metaphors in 50 Cent’s songs. The last step is analyzing the literal meaning
of some lines and the practices of misogyny in these 50 Cent’s lyrics.
ORGANIZATION OF THE THESIS
This thesis starts with the acknowledgements, in which the present
writer acknowledges the work and contributions of other parties. It is followed by the
abstract, a concise summary of the entire paper in Indonesian. The first chapter is the
the Problem, Purpose of the Study, Method of Research, and Organization of the
Thesis. The second chapter is the basic theory which I use in the analysis. The third
chapter is the analysis of the data consisting of the specifications of cognitive
metaphors which are found in 50 Cent’s songs. The last chapter contains the
conclusion of the thesis, the writer’s comments and suggestions. In the final part, the
CHAPTER FOUR
CONCLUSION
In both 50 Cent’s songs which are I have analyzed, I conclude 50 Cent
classifies the stages in sex activity between him and his woman. The sex activity is
classified into the time of the foreplay, the occurrence of the sexual intercourse, the
climax, and the afterplay. The foreplay part of both songs is signed by oral sex, and
then the occurrence of sexual intercourse is signed with the hotter situation between
50 Cent and the woman. The climax of the sex activity is signed by the ejaculation of
50 Cent. And finally the end of both songs is signed by the afterplay. In “Candy
Shop”, afterplay is done by playing again with 50 Cent’s penis, while in
“Amusement Park”; afterplay is signed with the invitation for further returning either
for the woman and her friends and the 50 Cent’s reminding about the pleasure in
enjoying oral sex.
I use structural metaphor as a part of cognitive metaphors in making the
concepts of each part of sexual intercourse. Then, I also use schema as the basis
domain as the framework of metaphor coherence. Therefore, all the analysis forms a
Related to the main ideology which is discussed in this thesis, that is misogyny; it is
found that misogyny practices in “Candy Shop” and “Amusement Park” are quite similar.
The self-pride of 50 Cent as to show the sides of masculinity pride are found in both songs.
Therefore, it is shown by the main metaphorical concept MAN IS THE POWER HOLDER.
In “Candy Shop” it is preceded by other metaphorical concepts 50 CENT IS A DECISION
MAKER, 50 CENT IS AN EXPERT, and 50 CENT IS A SEX POET. However, the main
metaphorical concept MAN IS THE POWER HOLDER in Amusement Park is being
preceded by metaphorical concepts 50 CENT IS A CENTRE OF ATTENTION, 50 CENT IS
AN EXPERT OF SEX, 50 CENT IS A TEASER, and 50 CENT IS AN ATTRACTIVE
MANwhich are supported the main metaphorical concept.
The dominated party in both songs is the woman. The objectification of woman is
found in both songs which are shown by the obedient trait of the woman to 50 Cent as figured
in the original text song. The woman is willing to do anything which 50 Cent wants. The
main metaphorical concept WOMAN IS SUBORDINATE is obviously appropriate in
depicting the circumstances of being the woman in both songs. Thus, in “Candy Shop”, that
main metaphorical concept is supported by some metaphorical concept WOMAN IS A
SEXUAL OBJECT and WOMAN IS A SLAVE while in “Amusement Park”; it is supported
by the metaphorical concepts WOMAN IS A SUFFERER, WOMAN IS A SEXUAL
OBJECT, WOMAN IS A SECOND PARTY, and WOMAN IS A DOMINATED PERSON.
Therefore, it is clearly seen that in terms of sexual intercourse, 50 Cent has power
over the woman. As for the woman, she seems to be helpless and willing to do anything that
50 cent asks her to do and 50 Cent make use of those things in terms of congitive metaphor.
Thus, the two songs clearly shows the practise of misogyny.
The other misogyny aspect found in both songs is penis becomes the symbol of
thing which is prominent.Besides, favor penis also supports the ideology of “Men are erotic
humans” thus makes women adores men and their penis greatly. What’s more, in “Candy
Shop”, penis is emphasized as the virility symbol of man which explained by the main
metaphorical concept PENIS IS A POWER ATTRACTION FOR WOMEN and supported by
some metaphorical concepts PENIS IS IRRESISTABLE BAIT FOR WOMAN, PENIS IS
VIRILITY OF MAN, PENIS IS A SYMBOL OF VIRILITY, and PENIS IS MAN’S
MASCULINITY. But in “Amusement Park”, the supporting metaphorical concepts are
PENIS IS MAN’S ATTRACTION, PENIS IS A TARGET, and PENIS IS A SEDUCING
PART OF MAN. It is because in misogyny, penis for men is very important as it is the sign
and centre of a man’s masculinity.
The differences between misogyny ideology in “Candy Shop” and “Amusement Park”
is that in “Candy Shop”; the misogyny ideology being used to analyze is having an
assumption that women is a nympho who is very addicted to sex. Therefore, it is used to
degrade the women’s dignity as prostitutes because the women’s fondness of sex. It is related
with what Meredith Renders says in Misogyny, Androgyny, and Sexual Harassment: Sex
Discrimination In a Gender-Deconstructed World which explain women has a tendency
becomes prostitutes because their fondness of sex.
Afterward, the misogyny ideology used to analyze “Amusement Park” points to the
men’s fanatic side of sex. Then, it further elaborates how men degrade the image of women
by using them as their sexual object and not treated by respect. This thing can be seen in the
analysis of “Amusement Park”, how 50 Cent is very fond of sex and want to do sexual
intercourse again and again. Afterwards, in the end of the lyrics mentions that he wants to do
the sex activity with the friends of the woman. In spite of being fanatic of sex, 50 Cent also
Last, I analyze 50 Cent’s songs entitled“Candy Shop” and “Amusement Park” which have
the theme of sex with clear practice of misogyny, but there are other 50 Cent’s songs, aside
from “Candy Shop” and “Amusement Park”, that have other themes such as politics and
racism, which can also be analyzed in terms of cognitive metaphor and to find out whether
