PreS-Gr 1-Lawler opens with this Dr. Seuss-like stanza: "It snowed without stopping/for week after week./When it ended at last,/Cami Lou took a peek." Cami Lou (whose name is reminiscent of Dr. Seuss's Cindy Lou Who) makes terrific use of a snow-packed landscape to create, with the help of her mother, father, and younger brother, the biggest snowman ever. "Thousands of people rode buses to see/the towering snowman, as tall as a tree." The burst of tourism is disrupted by petty neighbors, and the case against Snowzilla makes it all the way to court. Readers won't have much time to worry as the irrepressible Cami Lou thinks, emails, texts, blogs, and community organizes her way out of this modern dilemma. Lawler's rhymes occasionally sound contrived, but they scan beautifully. Haley's offbeat, busy, and chaotically colorful cartoon-style illustrations are a lively complement to the bouncy text.-Susan Weitz, formerly at Spencer-Van Etten School District, Spencer, NYα(c) Copyright 2011. large that he becomes a nuisance, and town folk are getting angry, so instead of destroying him, the town comes together again to move him to a safer spot. however, when summer comes along, he begins to melt, and while the kids are very sad, they know that another can be built next winter.

My kids both enjoyed the story, and i found it very cute. it can get kids very excited about winter and especially building snowmen. great if youre looking for a 5-10 minute winter story to read to your kids.

This is a charming story about Snowzilla, a huge snowman who was causing a few too many problems in a town ...

By Deb

The town was a winter wonderland with snow high up on the rooftops, capping the trees, and snuggling up against the windows. "It snowed without stopping / for week after week. / When it ended at last, / Cami Lou took a peek." Cami Lou's eyes sparkled as she looked up at two little red birds perched on the tops of the trees. Even her dog's eye's glistened as he took in the sight. On went her little red had festooned with pom poms, her scarf, and her gloves. Mustn't leave little brother behind so Cami bundled him up so they could both go out in the snow.

Cami and her brother smiled as they rolled a large snowball and their Mom plowed the snow into a pile. A snowman was just waiting inside all that snow. "They rolled out a middle / as plump as a pig; / placed a head on the top / with the help of Dad's rig." The decorations were soon on the snowman, a gigantic man they called Snowzilla. He was unlike anything the town had seen and hundreds `n hundreds of people came to see him. They laughed, they shouted, and they took pictures of Snowzilla, but something began to go terribly wrong. Not everyone one liked him and they began to protest and wanted him out, out out! What on earth could Cami do to save him?

This is a charming story about Snowzilla, a huge snowman who was causing a few too many problems in a town. This story in rhyme, which doesn't miss a beat, is delightful and will definitely be a hit with little snow bunnies everywhere. The decidedly peppy and bright artwork made the work spirited and brought out Cami Lou's excitement as she worked diligently to find a solution to her dilemma. My favorite scene was encompassed in a two-page spread when "Thousands of people rode buses to see / the towering snowman, as tall as a tree. If you just happened to read Tyrannoclaus and loved it, you just might want to add Snowzilla to your list!
