Behavior Response of Children during Their First Dental Visit in RSKGM-Ng

ABSTRACT

Young child’s emotional and behavioral re

sponse to dental treatment is a

serious concern to pediatric dentists. They commonly respond to stress for dental

visits with fear and anxiety. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the behavior

response of children during their first dental visit.

The research method was descriptive method with observation technique. The

subjects were 57 children who came to Rumah Sakit Khusus Gigi dan Mulut

(RSKGM), Kota Bandung. All behavior data observed were collected and analyzed

by using Descriptive Data Analysis with SPSS 21.0 for Macintosch Operating

System, then corresponded accord

ing to Frankl’s Behavior Rating Scale.

The result is 26 children were in happy behavior which rated 4 of

Frankl’s

Behavior Rating Scale. During the treatment there were 15 children in scare and

nervous behavior

. Based on the Frankl’s

behavior rating scale, scare is in rate 3,

while nervous is in rate 2.

In conclusion, the children are happy when in waiting room. In contrast, they

are scared and nervous during their treatment in the first dental visit.

ABSTRAK

Respon emosi dan perilaku anak untuk perawatan gigi merupakan masalah

yang serius bagi dokter gigi. Meraka biasanya menanggapi stres kunjungan ke

dokter gigi dengan ketakutan dan kecemasan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah

mengevaluasi respon perilaku anak selama kunjungan pertama ke dokter gigi.

Metode penelitian adalah deskriptif dengan teknik observasi. Subjek penelitian

adalah 57 anak yang datang ke Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut (RSKGM), Kota

Bandung. Semua data perilaku yang diamati dari subjek dikumpulkan dan

dianalisis dengan menggunakan Deskriptif Analisis Data dengan SPSS 21.0 Sistem

Operasi Macintosch, maka berhubungan menurut skala perilaku Frankl.

Hasilnya adalah 26 anak berperilaku sangat positif dan berada di tingkat 4

dalam skala perilaku Frankl. Selama perawatan 15 anak dalam kondisi ketakutan

dan gugup. Berdasarkan skala perilaku Frankl, berada di tingkat 3 untuk ketakutan,

sedangkan perilaku untuk gugup berada di tingkat 2.

Simpulannya, anak senang ketika di ruang tunggu. Sebaliknya, mereka takut

dan gugup selama pengobatan pada kunjungan pertama ke dokter gigi.
