Sebaliknya, semakin negatif a cademic self concept yang dimiliki, maka semakin rendah pula tingkat task commitment siswa akselerasi.

ABSTRACT
Task commitment is one of the criteria that a gifted student should have (Hawadi, 2002). Acceleration program is a study curriculum for a student with intellectual ability above average (Nasichin in Hawadi, 2002). Task commitment is a behavior that indicates the bound between tasks and responsibility. To develop such behavior, there are internal and external influences of the student (Saam, 2010). One of the internal influences in developing task commitment behavior is self concept. Person who have a positive self concept will recognize themself as a whole, have knowledge, expectation, and assessment of themself. In the context of academic, knowledge, hope, and assessment of self academic ability is called academic self concept (Wilson, 2009). Every student, including acceleration student has the academic self concept regardless of positive or negative.
This research aims to see the relationship between academic self concept of the acceleration student and their level of task commitment behaviour. Hawadis’s characteristics of task commitment, and Carlock’s aspects and dimention of academic self concept, were used to describe the two variable.
This research uses correlational quantitative method with total respondent of 83 acceleration students from two different school that has acceleration program in Medan. The research involve every subject within the research population. This research uses psychological scale method to collect the data.
The result of this research indicates that between academic self concept and level of task commitment has a significant positive relation. Thus describe that the more positive academic self concept an acceleration student has, the higher the students' level of task commitment. On the contrary, the more negative academic self concept an acceleration student has, the lower the student’s level of task commitment.
