ABSTRACT

Oil isolation transformer serves as an insulation and cooling medium for the transformer. Oil Isolation transformer has a wide range of oil characteristics include viscosity, water content and breakdown voltage. Characteristics of insulating oil can determine good or poor quality of transformer mainly on the breakdown voltage characteristics. High breakdown voltage characteristics due to the other good oil and vice versa. Oil characteristics can be affected by various factors one of which is temperature. Temperature may increase or decrease the quality of the oil transformer depending on insulating oil consumption itself on the transformer before or when the transformer operates. This research will be conducted by testing and analyzing of the effect of changes in the characteristics of Nynas Nitro transformer insulating oil to temperature and to analyze the influence of changes in viscosity and water content of the breakdown voltage. This research was conducted in laboratory testing transformer oil characteristics PT. PLN (Persero) P3B Jawa-Bali Region West Java. The method which is used in this research is experimental method that begins with the steps heating oil sample at different temperatures then viscosity test, water content and breakdown voltage according to applicable standards then analyzed to get a conclusion. Test results of viscosity characteristics and water content of the temperature shows the higher temperature, viscosity and water content will be lower but the value of breakdown voltage becomes high. Low viscosity and low water content can affect the value of breakdown voltage to be better. Viscosity and low water content occur at high temperatures. It can be concluded that the temperature affects the quality of the transformer characteristics and each of these characteristics has been linked to the value of breakdown voltage of transformer oil.
