ABSTRACT
WHO reported that approximately 43% of children in developing countries having growth disturbance. In Indonesia, it was estimated about 74% children suffered from growth disturbance from the year 2003 to 2008. In order to reduce this problem, The Republic of Indonesia Health Ministry had decided to involve the community. Kader Kesehatan are the volunteers who have the responsibility to monitor and detect children growth disturbance in their community. The study here is therefore, to know the level of knowledge among kader kesehatan; either they have the appropriate knowledge about child growth.
A cross-sectional descriptive research was conducted in Desa Hegarmanah, Desa Cisempur, and Desa Cileles by using cluster sampling. This study involved 84 kader kesehatan using a structured questionnaire.
From the findings, kader kesehatan that have moderate level of knowledge regarding child growth are about 35 (41.7%) people. For poor level of knowledge, there are about 27 (32.1%), and only 22 (26.2%) of them have good level of knowledge.
Overall, majority of kader kesehatan have appropriate level of knowledge in detecting growth disturbance in child. However, for kader kesehatan in the poor level, some action should be taken by Pukesmas. Seminar and workshop should be held routinely to increase their level of knowledge and competency.
