About the Author
PATRICK J. McGINNIS is a venture capitalist and private equity investor who founded Dirigo Advisors, after a decade on Wall Street, to provide strategic advice to investors, entrepreneurs, and fast-growing businesses. As a 10% Entrepreneur, he has built a diverse portfolio of investments in new ventures in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. I believe this book gives people who are looking for a way to break into startups a conservative, standardized approach to learning about opportunities, evaluating them, and getting involved in the ones that fit with what you're looking for. Ultimately, the individual has to make that decision, but the book puts out a framework that is easy to follow and anecdotes that help paint a picture of common situations we might find ourselves in.
I really enjoyed the author's writing style and industry expertise. It comes through in every page. For anyone who is interested in applying their talents to other ventures in their off-time, I would highly recommend this book as an introduction to getting started on that path. Now that I've taken in the lessons and experiences of the author, I feel much more confident to start approaching companies and pursuing the right opportunity in my off-time.

10% Entrepreneur provides the motivation, roadmap, confidence, and kickstart that so many of us W-2 executives need to take more control of our lives. I’ve been a successful big law lawyer, public company CEO and brand building executive, yet found myself wondering all too often why my career still seems beholden to others. While I’ve always been a skilled networker, I now realize I missed many opportunities to leverage my network into greater fulfillment and security. Subsequent to the reading the book, even on my worst days, I now realize my well-paying job is a luxury that will provide the springboard to building my portfolio of emotionally interesting, incremental revenue-producing and high upside opportunities I have been so sorely missing.
In short, 10% Entrepreneur is a must read for every hired executive who aspires to have a more fulfilling life.
