I have read and love The Gruffalo stories in standard English and Scots. The Scots is my favorite because it's so much fun to read with an accent. I'm American and my husband is Scottish. Neither of us have any trouble reading The Gruffalo in Scots. Some of the words in this book would be difficult for a young American or English reader to understand without some help. I recommend searching for a video of this book being read aloud so you can decide for yourself if it's "too difficult" or not.
