Reason for change: To align with industry practice for search engines
Summary of change: Adopt a KVP “GET” pattern that allows OpenSearch clients to query OGC catalogues and to return a result set as XML using GeoRSS/Atom as a baseline capability for all Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW) implementations.
Consequences if
not approved: OGC catalogues are not searchable by browser plug-ins or “toolbar search” that support the OpenSearch interface; would restrict access to OGC catalogue services implementations to OGC clients and audiences
Clauses affected: Version 3.0 divides the version 2.0.2 document into parts for the general and protocol binding sections. Pertinent Part is currently named
“Catalogue_2.1_HTTP_binding_draft,” pertinent section 6.8. May additionally be addressed in narrative and example detail in an informative annex.
