THE SELF-CONFIDENCE IN PUBLIC SPEAKING OF THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS OF SRIWIJAYA POLYTECHNIC

This research was conducted to find out the self-confidence in public speaking sixth semester students’ in English Department of Sriwijaya Polytechnic.

The purpose of this research was to know the percentage of self-confidence in their public speaking. This research used a quantitative method. The techniques of collecting the data used questionnaires by using readymade questionnaire by Nahar Khoriroh (2018). The population were sixth semester students in English Department of Sriwijaya Polytechnic in 2020. There were 50 participants were answered the questionnaires taken using purposive sampling. The result shows the percentage of self-confidence in sixth semester students’ public speaking in English Department of Sriwijaya Polytechnic. The findings revealed that, the higher students’ confidence, the more students’ ability to speak in public. This was supported by the results of a questionnaires that revealed the percentage of self- confidence in public speaking for sixth semester students in English Department of Sriwijaya Polytechnic reaching 80,18%.

KEPERCAYAAN DIRI DALAM BERBICARA DI DEPAN UMUM PADA MAHASISWA JURUSAN BAHASA INGGRIS DI POLITEKNIK SRIWIJAYA

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kepercayaan diri pada mahasiswa semester enam jurusan Bahasa Inggris Politeknik Sriwijaya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persentase kepercayaan diri mereka dalam berbicara di depan umum. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dengan menggunakan kuesioner siap pakai oleh Nahar Khoriroh (2018). Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 6 Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Politeknik Sriwijaya Tahun 2020. Peserta yang menjawab kuisioner yang diambil menggunakan pengambilan sampel secara sengaja sebanyak 50 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan persentase kepercayaan diri pada public speaking mahasiswa semester 6 di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Politeknik Sriwijaya. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa, semakin tinggi kepercayaan diri siswa, semakin banyak kemampuan siswa untuk berbicara di depan umum. Hal ini didukung dengan hasil angket yang mengungkapkan persentase kepercayaan diri berbicara di depan umum bagi mahasiswa semester enam di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Politeknik Sriwijaya mencapai 80,18%.

This final report was written to fulfill the needs of English Department Diploma III curriculum of State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya entitled “The Self-Confidence in Public Speaking of The English Department Students of Sriwijaya Polytechnic”.

Due to the limitation in experiences, abilities and knowledge, the writer realized that there are probably many mistakes in writing this report. Therefore, the writer anticipates that readers can provide suggestions and comments on this final report.
