Teachers’ Roles in Motivating Students

Abstract

In teaching and learning process, motivation is considered as the most important factor to deal with. Motivation is the willingness to attempt to achieve goals. Motivation comes both intrinsically and externally. Teachers, who can scaffold students, considered to have a significant role in motivating students and cannot avoid its importance. Moreover, when it comes to the students, students have different types of attitude and behavior in class. Based on that, teachers should understand and be more aware of students’ attitude and behavior differences in order to know how to handle the unmotivated students. However, it has become a concern that both students and teachers have not realized the importance of motivation in teaching and learning process. By interviewing some teachers, this study attempts to investigate their roles in motivating students, to trigger further studies in

supposing alternatives and solution for better improvement in teachers and students’

motivation in teaching and learning process.
