Current version: 2.0.2

Title: Catalogue (CSW) 2.0.2 CR: ElementName schema declaration contradicts specification text

Source: R. Martell <rmartell {AT} galdosinc {DOT} com>

Work item code: Date: 2008-08-07

Category: F

Use one of the following categories:

F (Critical correction)

A (corresponds to a correction in an earlier release)

B (Addition of feature),

C (Functional modification of feature)

D (Editorial modification)

Detailed explanations of the above categories can be found in the TC Policies and Procedures.

Reason for change: The csw:ElementName declaration in the CSW-discovery.xsd schema assigns the type xsd:QName. However, this prohibits the use of XPath expressions as described in cl. 10.8.4.9 and invalidates Example 1.

Summary of change: Change the type of csw:ElementName to xsd:string:

<xsd:element name="ElementName" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>

Consequences if

not approved: Example 1 in cl. 10.8.4.9 remains invalid and the use of XPath expressions as specified is prohibited. This error severely restricts the use of CSW-based catalogue profiles that employ non-trivial information models (e.g. ebRIM, ISO-19139).

Clauses affected: OGC 07-006r1: cl. 10.8.3 (GetRecordsType definition); schema document in OGC repository at <http://schemas.opengis.net/csw/2.0.2/CSW-discovery.xsd>.
