1. Three boys—Jamal, Hector, and Simon—work together on a farm. They walk into the barn, notice a scale used to weigh cattle, and decide to weigh themselves. Unfortunately, the scale begins at 100 kg and no one boy weighs more than 100 kg. They decide to weigh themselves in pairs and found these amounts. Jamal was sure that he weighed the most. Hector + Simon = 132 kg
Simon + Jamal = 151 kg Jamal + Hector = 137 kg What did each boy weigh?
2. Find the pattern in the sequence started below and draw the fifth and sixth figures. Write an expression to find the nth figure and explain.
3. Warren and Terry wanted to make pies. They needed to buy seven liters of fruit. Warren liked strawberry pie, and Terry liked peach pie. A liter of fruit contained either fifteen strawberries or six peaches. When they finished shopping, they discovered that they had the same number of strawberries as peaches. How man liters of each kind of fruit did they buy?
4. You are standing in line to see a movie. Five more people are ahead of you in line than are behind you. Four times as many people are in line as the number of people who are behind you. How many people are ahead of you in line?
